Babar Azam: Since his T20I debut in September 2016, he has played the most matches against minnows out of India/Pak players

I had an inkling about this stat given Pak play minnows (and second-string teams at home as a result of their unique situation back home) but didn't know it was quite this bad. Since his debut in Sep 2016, Babar Azam has played 32(!) T20I vs minnows. For comparison, Kohli has played half of that at 16:

I didn't realize it was that bad. The way Nasser Hussain and other commies were raving about these two had me fooled into thinking they were truly among the best.

Babar is a decent batsman, but he's in the Amla, Rahane class, not the top shelf tier of batsmen who can dominate the white ball game.  Had a terrible start to his test career, but has started to fix that.  

 

'Banter' logic can actually lead you to underrate him - he's a very good bat, and "great" by greenbro standards.  Its been ages since they had a decent batsman, so the OTT 'happiness' is understandable.

I think he is a good batsman, but even Rahane is probably a more complete player against fast bowling based on what I have seen. Against quality spin he isn't great shakes but neither was Rahane. His white ball averages are VERY flattering.

Rahane the test bat is inconistent, but head and shoulder above Babar.  I meant Rahane as a white ball batsman....

Shan Masood if he gets some more luck, he could end up yet another limited batsman turned 'fighting kuptaan' liability for greenbros a la Azhar Ali, Misbah etc.

Ah yes that makes sense. Think Rahane would have had better stats in white ball if India had been dumb enough to persist with him. There was a point where he actually wasn't bad..around the time he used to open for RR I think. Showed far more intent than Babar.

Exactly.  That's the type of limited white ball batsman is Zimbabar.  But for greenbro andher nagri, he's undisputed kaaniya raaja.  I used to compare him to Manish Pandey a lot few years back, and I still believe the comparison holds.  Pandey if he was Pakistani, he would have outshone Babar and been a 10 year captain for them.  Heck even a Parthiv Patel would have been a greenbro great...

dont forget Samuels. 2 ATG T20I knocks off all time. People talk about Kohli’s innings vs Pak and Australia. It’s not even close to those knocks. It’s all about visibility.

On topic though, very good player. Pakistanis play a part in making us ridicule him but very fine batsman. Not for T20 because doesn’t have the extra gear but goor for odi and tests.

 

People for get that there is SENA but there are equal amount of SC conditons where a player needs to perform.

It is just that subcon fans discuss their players, while others move on after a time (Ind is probably still doing Sachin Sachin for e.g., while Aus would probably have moved on from Steve Waugh, Ponting, McGrath, etc.)

He is a goodish Test player, a very good ODI accumulator and a decent T20 player. He is no ATG candidate.

He's a talented 'side actor' batsman. Very good at accumulating but not the type of batsman to grab a game by the scruff of the neck and turn on it's head in clutch moments.

Babar Vs Aus: 64 avg and 127 SR

Babar vs India: Avg 31 and 128 SR

Babar vs NZ: 44 Avg and SR 121

Babar vs Eng: Avg 50 and 143 SR
