Pant opening in ODIs? He is MO bat as shown in Eng century. He is an ideal #5. We need some top order batters chipping in with the ball. Iyer can bowl a bit leggies.

SKY - Hasn't done well in ODIs but is in a beast of form in T20s, just had a hundred vs NZ in T20 too.

In the current Indian team, Iyer is arguably the best player of spin bowling and is also arguably the best player you would want to have in terms of holding one end and ensuring a collapse doesn't happen.

 

Gambhiresque I would say with more consistency(in bilaterals).

This is good team if Rohit's ODI form holds up. Still think there is time for Pant in ODIs. A left hander in top 5 is needed.

Pruning the size of probable members to be tested is  a must now for WC23. We have only 8-9 months and at most not more 28 matches . out of this, last 3 months would have to be used for probable 15 players shortlisted , hence  for every department needs filtering and focusing on best of the few. 

So most probably we have around 20 matches for finalizing  final 15 , that may mean 2 younger players in each department need to picked in a single match - 

Say Siraj & Sen in one match ,  Prasidh & Umran  in another match, so that each of the prospect will get around 15-20 matches before WC. Similarly in Opening, All rounders ,spinners , all rounders .

1) he must do really really good in next 6 months , that is the only window i see . 

2) Selectors see something which most others have not seen in a player

3)  If the above probables are not given chances but mostly  oldies play in bi laterals , will confirm selection is dominated by IPL teams mafia, Media Sponsors mafia , Player & PR mafia and pressure from  BCCI TOP level
