Decision to play or not under poor lights should be the sole decision of the team batting as long as the reading is not too low to affect the visibility beyond permissible.

It is not all about batting team. Fielding team also has to spot the ball in case of high catches. Also fast slip catches becomes difficult.

The thing is batting side due to chance of winning play in 50-50 situation of light. Other team does not. Game of thin margins

Trust me, Indian team is no better in not shutting the shop. Chepu will shut shop even if 20 runs required of last 30 minutes. Only Pant will go for it.

Yes i am talking about Pant or even Iyer. Chrpu is diff case altogether his default setting is to survive irrespective of pitch or condition. Off late he just play selfishly to survive but anyone of Pant, Iyer or Sundar played at Sarfraz position could have tried to win it as the pitch was so flat that no. 9 and 10 were hitting effortlessly and NZ had pedestrian attack.

Both captains had "jaan bachi laakho paaye" look at the end. Terrible test series except last session today somewhat.

Big teams will stay away from Pakistan after this season.

He did try, it should go down as one of the great test innings. It is not easy to handle pressure of 4 innings chase.

He tried but at the end he got too defensive when 6-7 overs were remaining. He was playing really well before that and was easily taking 4-5 runs per over. Nothing against him he was the best Pakistani batsmen in this series but somehow he changed his approach at the fag end and that's what causes his downfall in nothing delivery.

That is why test cricket is great. It brings out real character of the team and players. There is an option of draw which creeps into the minds and it clouds player's judgement.Sarfraz like his team preferred a draw first then win next.

Aussies to me are the only team to me who are willing to lose to get that win.I thought Kohli was like Aussies after 2014 but he also turned out to be another fake aggressor as his captaincy got older. We will have to see how England's Bazball will progress in future.

Bazball will carry on the same way I think. McCullum is what he is. You can tell by his demeanour he isn't trying be like someone else. Yeah they might lose a few by an innings but Eng are and will probably be the only team in the future to get results in all 3 matches in Pak on those pitches. It'll be very interesting to see if it works for them in Ind and Aus. In Ind, 100% matches won't even get to the 3rd day considering what happened last time.

It underlines how captaincy plays a role in rolling out oppositions on day 5. KL Hahul fumbled in SA.  Then Bumrah being a noob didn't know what to do in 5th test at Birmingham.   You could see the difference between Stokes and Southee. Southee had better spin attack.

Tbf I'm left with the feeling that comsidering Nzl declared to make a game of it and possibly win the cricketing god's respected that and made sure they got out of the game with something. They could have easily batted into today and made any result a foregone conclusion but didn't. Pakistan didn't try to win after Salman Agha got out which I can't understand since Sarfaraz was batting on a century and is a +ve player by nature. He suddenly got afraid of losing like Southee did after tea. Overall good end to what was a  dull test match for the best part.

Is rizwan that bad? Thought he was a good batsman. Has been found out something?

Has to be some other reason. Sarfaraz was thrown out most likely due to his batting and his captaincy. Rizwan was doing decent.

sarfaraz is less consistent, but a more dynamic bat. rizwan is a true indian senior batter - stat-padder who plays tuk-tuk
