Good that former VC has hit some form after years of underachievement.

But reminiscing about recalling a soon to be 35 year old is sad indictment on the current state of Indian cricket.

They forgot to groom sarfraz instead gave chance to a 32 year old T20 specialist.

In Tests there is a distinct chance with Iyer out of the picture. His sole competition is public enemy KL Rahul.  But i still cannot help wonder how he has turned it around. Even at his peak he never played like this in IPL.   @maniac139 Often compares Ruturaj with Rahane. I told  that Rutu has a special six hitting ability. It is almost like Rahane has become a mini Rutu rather than RUturaj becoming Rahane.  Same type of elevated pull shots, pick up shots.  This six hitting ability was never to be seen with Rahane at any phase of his career. Second of all he would stop attacking right after power play. But in this edition he continues attacking.

He is plying more like transformed dk who played for MI. But DK shat in internationals.

One common thing is we instantly respect players who show intent without selfishness. Even Rahane. DK was loved by all last season for this attitude. I never imagined I would want one of the CSK openers to get out just to see Rahane's intent.

Let him stick to IPL only, I am 200% sure when he will play for National team, he will be back to his timid approach.

Ship for Rahane has sailed, he is already 34/35...let him play IPL and domestic tournaments and retire happily. He was a mediocre performer for a decade and one IPL season isn't going to wipe that out.

+1. Even DK looked like a million bucks last year in the IPL but turned out to be a dud in the WC.

https://www.rediff.com/cricket/report/csk-coachs-surprising-revelation-about-rahane-ipl-2023/20230530.htm

CSK coach Stephen Fleming praised Ajinkya Rahane, the senior Indian batsman, who had a highly successful season with the bat for the team.

Rahane's approach shifted as he abandoned his anchor batting philosophy, leading to remarkable results.

"My understanding is that we got rid of the tag of being the guy you bat around or bat through. I think that maybe hung over his head a little bit too much and didn't allow him to be the player that he can be."

"And once that tag was gone, when I turned up halfway through the preseason training, I saw a guy who was in magnificent form," Fleming said.

Fleming said that Rahane didn't feature in their initial plan.

"He wasn't in our initial thoughts, but the game in Mumbai was really defining. It was one of our best wins in the tournament and he was the big catalyst behind it, so he cemented that No. 3 spot."

"He has been unwavering the whole way through he's been nothing but positive, his nets have been positive. Anytime he's been caught on the boundary or out playing a big shot, we've just reinforced how good he's playing. So a little bit of belief and just sheer ability — he's been a wonderful player for us this year," he said.

Insane transformation. Look at the strike rate compared to all his seasons

For all the flak that Rahane takes from keyboard-fans, one has to admire his discipline, classy demeanor and team-first attitude.  If nothing, I will be indebted to him for the leadership, which led to the MCG, SCG, Gabba moments.

That innings at Wankhede was amazing to watch. Gaikwad was 5 runs in 10 balls When Jinx reached his 50.

I got the feeling he wasn't as focussed after he was included in the wtc final. Hope that the Rahane we get is the one we saw for most of the ipl and not the one we saw play several more tests than he deserved to for India.

India lost a lot of players to injury. Pant/Iyer/Sundar/Bumrah/Hahul. So it was a great opportunity groom youngsters. No we don't want that. We go back to the guys who sucked for 3 years.

Call me crazy but he might be the best man to take the team forward if he maintains his form

But only if Rohit Pujara are dropped. Kohli is untouchable.

On his 10 years of international career....when he has maintained his form.

He is a player who will play one good knock in series followed by failures across.

Ajinkya Mediocre Rahane.

Two things always common

1) 1 good innings to keep his career going

2) Getting out at the worst time of the match.

Transformation hasn't lasted more than one year lol They got something out of him. Then they got greedy and made him opener.

No wonder Fleming is trending

This is what Fleming had to say about Rahane's shitshows “Rahane looked good, probably little bit too aggressive in terms of what he is trying to do”
