Who wins a 50 over match between these two teams

Just for jokes. Under Current ODI rules if you want to be pedantic about it

Also give reasons.

Team 1

Rohit Sharma
Virendar Sehwag
Saurav Ganguly (c)
Virat Kohli
Rahul Dravid (wk)
Hardik Pandya
Ravindra Jadeja
Ravi Ashwin
Anil Kumble
Zaheer Khan
Mohammed Shami

Team2

Sachin Tendulkar
Shikar Dhawan
Gautam Gambhir
Yuvraj Singh
MS Dhoni (c + wk)
Suresh Raina
Kapil Dev
Irfan Pathan
Harbhajan Singh
Kuldeep Yadav
Jasprit Bumrah

Team 1 as it has a stronger bowling attack.

I like a team with 4 pace options, and spinners like Ashwin and Kumble can bowl at various phases too.

Pace

Zaheer

Shami

SDP

Ganguly

Spin

Kumble

Ashwin (known to be effective against left handers - 4 in the top 7 of Team 2)

Jadeja

Sehwag (can be used against left handers if required)

PS Team 2 has a relatively inadequate bowling attack. Its two main spinners (Bhajji & Kukdeep) mainly bring the ball into right handers, which Team 1 has plenty (including spin bashers like Sehwag, Ganguly’ & Hardik). Yuvi may not be effective with the ball under the current rules and playing style.

Thanks! Youre right about team 2 spin attack- I wanted each team to have one wrist spinner each, and I could not think of a leggie aside from Chahal so went for Kuldeep; felt Yuvraj (who youre probably right about current rules, but is still a accruate SLA) and to a lesser extent Raina gave Team 2 some options. It is also why I put Jasprit in there, to give the overall attack some more bite. I think with Jasprit Team 2 pace attack is just a bit better than 1's

ALso good point on Ashwin vs lefties didnt think of that :-)

Team 2

They have a significantly stronger middle order, which will be the difference.

Wow you think... I didnt see it that way... Dravid SR will definitely be a concern but at his ODI peak he was a brisk accumulator, him and Virat will be a good duo laying a foundation for Hardik

I rate Team 1 pace attack better for the Zaheer + Shami combo, supported by Hardik who can ball at pace both outswinger and I swing now.

Team 1 has Bumrah. Irfan as 2nd or 3rd bowler will lose some effectiveness if it does not swing (or when it stops swinging). Not sure if Kapil would survive today’s big hitting (bowled mostly with the red ball in an era of no power plays. In 1992 WC, he wasn’t that effective bowling with white ball and in power play).

Number 4 to 8

Kohli > Yuvraj

Dravid < Dhoni

Pandya < Raina

Jadeja < Kapil

Ashwin < Irfan

1-4 : No contest here imo. Team 2 just has too much fire power and have clutch players too who have won a WC.

Team 1 bowling looks stronger though, mostly in the spin department.

Team 1 will win. Under current ODI rules, Dhoni won't be able to apply the middle overs squeeze and the 6th bowler will get smashed.

Yuvi, MSD and Raina is as clutch as it comes. Add in Bumrah and Kapil Paji and GG and it becomes too formidable

Team 1 to win Tests, ODIs, bilaterals. Team 2 will win T2Os. Overall better balance with Team 1.

team 2 has a lot of big match players. tendu and dhawan might choke, but not completely IMO -- they are ok. Yuvi, dhongi, raina, kapil, gambho is a solid combo.

bowling is weak though
