In a way India won the famous 2021 series in Australia because of that positive approach. India was going to lose SCG test. Then Pant broke free and completely disturbed their line and length. India got away with draw. Same in the final test. India being up against run rate Gill's ultra aggressive approach set the tone for us. Phattu batting rarely works in these conditions. If the phattu batter is not surrounded by atleast few aggressive batsmen yeah but both were relatively flat decks too. Pujara also played a crucial role with Pant/Gill. Link to comment

Bigg Brother
Such a blockbuster series this was. Rain ruined it in 4th test otherwise thoroughly enjoyable series. This is how 5 test match series should be. Kudos to Australian players as well, most of them went on to play 6 test matches in span of 2 months without any injury. Not easy to maintain that zeal and energy but brilliant on their part unlike our sooperstars who would have wanted rest after 2 matches or broke down while playing or run away for playing IPeeL. Anyway great entertainment this was. Now will have to wait for 1.5 year , I wonder what would be the team composition of Australia when they play next Ashes as many of them are 33+. Link to comment

I knew it would be a drawn series, like the last ashes held in Eng (in 2019). Even the scoreline is the same this time (2-2). These two sides are quite evenly matched in english conditions. In Aus, it's a different ball game altogether, where Eng usually play like minnows. Link to comment
Frustrated
The only thing that surprised me a bit is that Eng did not have to rely much on express pacers like M Wood. Trundler Chris Woakes did the job for them on most occassions. (3rd test onwards when he was included in playing11). It goes to show that even a trundler who is consistent and accurate with his release points can win u games in Eng. Woakes did not play the first 2 games, otherwise the result could hv been a little different. Link to comment

Woakes has height plus truly even the trundlers aka here line length/control bowlers have to bowl in line and length to be effective Our trundlers like Unadcutter,Thakur bowl both sides of the wicket but they get away for being "beautiful to eyes bowling" Mukesha is another average mediocre trundler with no bounce but pseudo swing Edited August 1, 2023 by Suhaan Frustrated 1 Link to comment
MechEng
Woakes will get hammered when he will have to bowl with the kookaburra and on hard wickets. Link to comment
Lone Wolf
BazBall will be pretty successful on rank turners... India are looking at a fight as far as batting goes. Their spin options is what gives India advantage. Link to comment

That sort of batting worked in Pakistan because there was barely any turn there. You cannot hit a turning ball across the line all the time. Yes, if England are able to cream fours after hitting the ball with the turn, that won't be bazball but extremely high skill of batting. Edited August 1, 2023 by MechEng Link to comment

On rank Turners sheer defence never works no matter how much tighter technique you have. Aggressive cricket yields results. Eng only need 250-300 runs to make a game out of it. Link to comment

Just normal pitches with some spin and bounce would suffice. We can Rip them apart provided we make correct selections. Link to comment

Australia should be happy to walk away with 2-2 (retaining Ashes) + WTC final. Link to comment

Aggressive cricket is not higher in priority over technique, making 250 on rank turners at 5 runs per over is peak Sehwag/Lara stuff. If aggression is everything then Suresh Raina at his prime can smash Andy Roberts all over the park. Link to comment
