actually they are not the same koreans.

 

its the korean 2nd mens doubles team that is in the final. the main mens doubles team (who satchi lost against) is out

Probably the end of the road for Prannoy though. He must be exhausted after today's game and also is battling a back injury. Although it won't get counted till the day after

 

Pity we didn't win one more medal from wrestling and that Ghosal won silver. Other big disappointment and shock would be the women's hockey team. 

 

Tomorrow's potential medals

 

Archery: 0

Although seeded very high have no confidence in the recurve archers. Men may get through to beat Mongolia - but will lose SF for sure. Women are no hopers vs Japan

 

Badminton: 1B

Prannoy will lose given his injury. I hope he proves me wrong. Hoping Chirag and Satwik go through the next round. If only we had Lakhsya Sen playing instead of Srikanth. They are the better ranked team and had an easy opponent today so should have conserved energy whereas the Malaysians would have had a tough match vs the Chinese.

 

Bridge: 1G/S

Probably Silver most likely as we trail 2-1 and we won the third narrowly. 3 more sessions to go tomorrow. 

 

Hockey: 1G

Anything but gold would be a huge disappointment for the men. Hope they don't take the Japanese lightly and are clinical. They were not clinical in the semi-final vs Korea. 

 

Wrestling: 2B

In the Womens Freestyle 62kg Sonam should get through her first round vs Nepal easily. After that she will face a Cambodian who she should get through as well to the SF. She will probably have to face Asian champ Chinese to get through which she may or may not win. Bronze is probably a good hope for her

 

In the Womens Freestyle 76kg, Kiran will probably be beaten in the QF by the Japanese lady and go into the repechange. Unlikely medalist

 

In the Womens Freestyle 68kg, Radhika Hooda has no chance of a medal. Will probably lose to the Mongolian in the QF

 

In Mens Freestyle 65kg, Bajrang should have a clear route to the final. Don't know how fit or prepared he is. Should expect a minimum of bronze from him

 

In Mens Freestyle 57kg, No idea about Aman. None of our newbie wrestlers have made a mark though. Let's wait and see

 

So overall: 1G, 1S, 3B

 

Predictions from yesterday above were way off happily!

 

I predicted 1G, 1S and 3B from wrestling and badminton happily we got way more medals than that. We got 1G, 2S and 5B

 

Best surprise of the day were the recurve archers who did well to get the silver and bronze. They still showed a lot of inconsistency though throughout which was maddening. The sudden 7s and 8s when they look like the will win is infuriating to watch. Still great job to them and congratulations to their teams for the medals. Well deserved redemption in a way for their appalling individual and mixed rounds. Hope they go from strength to strength from here.

 

Bronze from Sepaktakraw was a pleasant surprise as well. Chirag Shetty and Satwik's game was a super finish to the day. 

 

Predictions for tomorrow:

 

Archery: 2G, 1B

I would be surprised if we don't sweep gold in all the compound awards tomorrow. Pity the recurve team has 0 representation here. They would have been on a high after today. 

 

Badminton: 1S

Being pessimistic here. Happy to be wrong about Chirag Shetty & Satwik

 

Chess: 2S

Doesn't look like we have any chance to beat the Iranians in the men's and China on the women's side. #2 on both

 

Cricket: 1G

If we don't canter to gold here would be weird

 

Hockey: 1B

Despite their horror show in the SF, I would be surprised if the Indian ladies lose the bronze tomorrow

 

Kabaddi: 2G

I think the ladies will make sure they don't underestimate the Chinese Taipei this time and the men will look for revenge for 2018. 

 

Wrestling: 2B

Not sure who will win given how badly underprepared the squad looks. Will go with 2B

 

I see some names in the Soft Tennis QF and Sport Climbing as well. Would be nice if we could get a couple of medals from there as well. 

 

Overall: 5G, 3S, 4B

Iran have not beaten us - we drew 1-1 in the group stage because of top seed Gukesh's loss. - and that was a huge underperformance BY INDIA.

 

Lightening doesnt strike twice.

 

We are the top seed and have much stronger players than Iran man for man.

 

If the format is such that we play the finals against them - I would back us to win Gold here 9/10 times.

 

It would be a surprise if we don't.

 

For women against China - we have 1-2 weaker links so silver is most likely.

so you are saying it’s the last round of a round robin format where #1 finisher is gold medalist not a 1:1 between #1 and #2 ?

Yes. It is the final round of the round robin - not a final

 

We are drawn against Philippines and Iran vs Korea in mens

 

We are drawn against Korea and China vs UAE in womens

 

So no chance of any upset.
