express bowling
Very good decision. No point persisting with an unfit player, no matter how valuable. And Prasidh is a very good pick. Prasidh should have been in the original squad in place of pseudo allrounder Shardul. SRT100 and cricspirit 1 1 Link to comment

cricspirit
So much worry for one player missing. One player who has not done much except some decent spells. Yeah we dint need his batting when he was there. we still have won every match without his services as if he wasn't even there. In fact his leaving has got rid of Thakur too and got us Shami. Pandya is no more reliable bat than SKY. The only real issue is just in case we need his 4-5 overs. But his overs are never guaranteed in any game no matter his fitness at start of the Match. Just a mental thing only. His absence won't matter much. 5 overs by Virat, SKY, Iyer may cost is a bit more depending on pitch and match conditions. Hard to get Tilak and fit him in top 6 without much exposure in middle of the world cup. SKY has continuity. Venky could have been prepared for this situation. Missed opportunity but Venky lost his place after some poor performance. Not sure if Venky is ODI material either. Prasidh is not a bad call just in case we need a fast bowler. TM has likely decided that Thakur won't play in absence of Pandya. Link to comment

putrevus
It was a freak injury, I wouldn’t blame Pandya as others are blaming. He is very fit and athletic but his body is injury prone. BacktoCricaddict 1 Link to comment
bharathh
Should have chosen Rinku Singh or Deepak Chahar. Link to comment

Well it will but if our tourney is ruined just because of one player we were never good enough, especially given this is at home! Oz lost Warne, to doping, and Gillespie mid tournament yet they decimated pretty everyone throughout the 2003 WC. Sobers lite isn't as patch on any of those two greats back from 2003, yes he is in good form but still not an unfillable hole. Edited November 4, 2023 by R!TTER cricspirit 1 Link to comment

Already hit a good 49 on a testing track in quick time. How he performs in a KO remains to be seen He won't perform in KO. HE COULDN'T do it in his favourite format, he can't do in ODIs, that's a surety. It's down to Rohit and Kohli with bat. Link to comment

Downtown
You might not be the biggest fan of Pandya, but let me share some interesting facts that might make you appreciate his contributions more. He's often criticized, but he's actually quite a reliable player in high-pressure situations. He's played some unforgettable innings alongside Virat Kohli in games like the Asia Cup 2022 against Pakistan, the World Cup 2022 against Pakistan, and the Asia Cup 2023 with Ishan Kishan. Remember that incredible chase against Australia in their own backyard? There are many more memorable moments in his career. His batting doesn't always shine, but when it counts the most, he steps up. I see him as the next go-to player after Kohli in crunch situations, capable of stabilizing a shaky situation, like a 10/3 scenario in a knockout game. And I haven't even mentioned Pandya's valuable bowling and fielding skills. On the other hand, when it comes to Sky, it's evident that he struggles against top teams in pressure situations. He lacks the experience that Pandya brings to the table and often falters during tough phases of the game. I can't recall any standout innings from him in all the ODIs he's played. So, it's hard to argue that Sky is an upgrade over Pandya; in fact, he seems like a step-down. Pandya's absence is a significant blow to Team India, especially right before a crucial semi-final match in the 2023 World Cup. Now, we find ourselves grappling with India's recurring middle-order woes, reminiscent of previous World Cup editions. The burden falls squarely on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to carry the team across the finish line. It's tough to have faith in players like Iyer, KL Rahul, and Sky when chasing against formidable opponents like South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. They often seem ill-suited for high-pressure games. Pandya, the unsung hero, will be sorely missed for the remainder of the World Cup. His versatility and ability to perform under pressure make him an invaluable asset. The loss is a tough pill to swallow as India heads into the all-important semi-final. mani sha, nitinbwj and Lord 1 1 1 Link to comment
