Are we witnessing Wall-Ball?

I noticed this in Pak game and even today, Indian batsman are playing borderline reckless cricket with an exciting approach. Gunned down chase against Ireland, surpring ultra aggressive approach vs Pak and even today. Maybe a new way forward to the Indian team. I am sure someone one will say Dube or Kohli or other strike rates, in Dube’s case it is limitations. In Kohli’s case it’s out of form and some leeway for pitches and bowlers too.

However this may come off soon and achieve something great.

In that case why not pick players who're a better fit for performing those roles? If you want to be aggressive in PP, likes of Jaiswal or Abhishek are a much better bet than Kohli. The problem with "Wall-Ball" is that wrong players are picked to play a role which they're not suited for; e.g., Kohli as opener or Jadeja as a lower order hitter.

Nobody in this team is really a T20 batsman other than SKY. They are all good ODI or test batsmen trying to fit into T20 style of play. That's why it's awkward to see them bat even if they are scoring runs, like Pant or Kohli or even Hardik. Its not their natural game.

Jaiswal, Abhishek, Rinku Singh - they are more apt for T20

Pant has his game for T20, its just that his ability to rotate strike and find singles is poor. Hence when strangled, his only option to jailbreak is hoick in the cow corner.

Rinku is smart in that way, he is quick to rotate strike, and gives everything when hitting big.

Abhishek has improved his bat swing and hence hits monstrous sixes. I doubt his game post powerplay though.

Jaiswal's biggest advantage is his fearlessness, he won't back himself down even after hitting 2 sixes in an over and will go for third. Gill & Ruturaj aren't fearless even though they both too have ability to hit big shots consistently.

IMO if Rinku Singh becomes number 3 batsman moving forward, he would be an assest. At number 6, I doubt he is going to be helpful.

Pant should still be an opener as he has problem in rotating the strike.Jaiswal and Pant should be openers.Would Gill be odd man out if Rinku is going to be great at number 3.

I still would bring in Jaiswal against Australia and play him in both semis and finals.I hope Dravid and Rohit are flexible enough to bring Jaiswal into the team He is too good a player to miss out.

Problem is these two morons rarely change the team. They kept playing KL Rahul in last two world t20s.

Siraj in last October, Shami would have missed out if Pandya did not get hurt also.

This lineup would be perfect...

Jaiswal

Abhishek

Pant

SKY

Parag

Rinku

Pandya

Harshit Rana

Kuldeep

Bumrah

Varun C (if it's spin friendly) or Nattu/Arshdeep/Khaleel (if the pitch is seam friendly)

Others:

Venky Iyer (better than Dube and no. 3 or backup opener to boot)

Gill (though better suited to ODIs)

Sai Sudarshan (another player perfect for no. 3 in ODIs)

Jitesh/Jurel (as the backup wkt keeper)

Sai Kishore (a left arm spinner who can bowl in the PP similar to Akeal Hosein of WI)

Mayank Yadav (if he's fully fit)

Bishnoi (much better than Chahal)

This pool is good enough to be a top team. And you can always add couple of form players before a tourney. Unfortunately we're stuck with non-performing seniors.

The best part about Pant is he's fearless and has the right attitude. Nothing fazes him. You want players like him instead of KL Rahul types.

Rinku is perfect for middle order as he has the maturity to bat as the situation demands, and is extremely underrated.

Abhishek is the perfect player for us right now. You can finish the match in PP as Warner-Head and Buttler-Salt have shown. A 12 ball 30 or a 15 ball 40 puts you ahead of the game so much that there's literally no pressure on others and you can literally walk to a 200 total. Jaiswal & Abhishek would make a gun opening partnership, and you need these type of X-factor players in the team. If they fail, so be it and they'll as that's their game - just look at Head who gets out for 0(1) often but on his day he wins you the match on his own. A T20 team needs a couple of such batsmen.

This is not wall ball , it was sharma's vision since 2022 tc  , now they are executing it better, it should be termed mauryan ball.

They still don't have the players to execute it. On these pitches Kohli is better suited to bat at 3. You don't need to score 200+ on these pitches. A score of 160-180 is likely to be a winning score on these pitches, and Kohli would be better suited to bat at 3 the way he used to at a SR of 130 or so. These pitches requires Kohli of old, i.e. someone who can shepherd the innings given we lack solidity lower down the order.

I wish, hope, and pray that Rohit, Kohli, and Dravid see it and adjust accordingly. They don't need to lead with their ego and double down on a poor decision. Jaiswal is perfect to open on these surfaces along with Rohit, and Kohli can come in at 3. Makes the batting order look so much better. We've an amazing chance to win - the pitches are to our strengths, schedule & upsets have favored us, and we won't get a better chance to win a tourney. Don't let your ego and doubling down on a terrible decision waste our best opportunity to win, especially the form Bumrah is in

If I am not wrong, Jay Shah when calling Kohli as an opener alongside Rohit said that "opening will be best for both of them". He didn't said it will be best for team but for those two.

You can connect the dots now.

We already know that. Kohli deciding to open is such a selfish act - never seen any player undermine his team to further their personal interests in such a flagrant fashion. He wouldn't care if India loses as long as he scores some cheap personal runs while opening. No wonder we couldn't win anything with "seniors" like these.

You didn't notice it in World Cup. We were targeting 400 every time we batted first. [Rohit and Iyer in particular].

Another knockout, another rain interrupted match :whack:

And India lost the toss and put to bat first. Sounds too familiar :((

If the bat becomes difficult to grip, it will become hard to defend. Not a high scoring pitch, but we should aim for 200 nevertheless.

Good Intent so far, even though only Rohit succeded (somewhat). Should keep taking risks after resuming.
