Tjis WT20 has clearly shown that we don't need specialists. Likes of Abhishek and Parag need to be fast tracked as the upside is much greater. They'll give you the same overs of spin and even if they get hit, we'll bat till 9. That's the way to play modern T20s and the time of picking 6 specialist batsmen and 5 specialist bowlers is gone. cowboysfan, AKane and Frustrated 3

Only 1 bowler in world cricket can help his side defend the total from that position. And that is none other than Bumrah. And he did that. But MOTM award went to Kohli. I feel this is daylight robbery. Do u also think so? Three things happened. 1) People knew Kohli was retiring and ..... you know how it is. 2) They had the player of the tournament/series award which they could hand out to Bumrah. 3) This is just a guess but with 30 required off of 5 overs, Bumrah bowled 2 overs for 6 runs and Jansen's wicket. Hardik and Arshdeep bowled 2 overs(1 each) for 8 runs and Klaasen's wicket. Then came the final over. Yes Bumrah did incredibly well but Hardik and Arshdeep did almost as well. I think the powers that be took that as SA choking.......and there is some truth to that. Ultimate_Game and Frustrated 2
putrevus Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 We will see soon, how great Abhishek and Parag are against both fast bowlers and spinners. I feel the bandwagoners will keep jumping ship from one player to another .For them it is always players who are not in the squad.
putrevus Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Pace bowlers won them the 2007 finals too. RP singh and Pathan were the key bowlers then. singhvivek141 1

I think he is a naturally attacking bowler. Bowling short and away from batsmen's arc isn't his strength and with the speeds he bowls at it becomes even worse. He certainly overpitched in yesterday's game . But he delivered throughout the tournament otherwise. You can only make sides stronger by eliminating the weakest links. Not one of your elite cricketers . It's a T20 after all and bowlers will get hit in the odd game. In the tournament as a whole, Kohli and Dube were failures and Jadeja was an absolute minnow. SKY and Pant were acceptable. Kuldeep is far from a worry in white ball cricket currently. Ultimate_Game and Number 2
putrevus Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Kuldeep is a worry, he stunk in world cup finals also in November. He is an unreliable spinner in big spots. He is way overrated. velu and Ultimate_Game 2
Ultimate_Game Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Kuldeep definitely seems like someone who shrinks under pressure. If we play in subsequent finals, I would be wary of picking Kuldeep. He's good for group stages but in finals he shits the bed.

More like SA batsmen outbatted our batsmen against spin. We all know how deadly Klassen is. Zampa went for 113 runs in 10 overs against Klassen's merciless attack in a ODI. Sometimes you just have to tip your head off to the batsmen.

Our guys went collectively 106 in 9 overs - pretty similar to Zampa. Maybe even a tad worse. Yeah I know this is a T20 and not comparable. Edited July 1, 2024 by AKane

There was a strong cross breeze, it was drifting the ball in to leftie & across righties. They almost always used the breeze against him.

Even Pandua for Kohli, not that Kohli didn't play an overall good hand but Markram rushed through the spinners when we were consolidating.

Yeah I know this is a T20 and not comparable. Axar is generally a good bowler. I can't think of him bowling bad balls. Klassen converted them into bad balls. IT is a monsterous skill not many has in the world cricket. When the ball is just back of a lengh 95% of the batsmen will try to tap for a single. He shifted his weight to the backfoot and mowed him over extra cover like it is an half tracker. These are insane skills. These things come off when there is absolutely nothing for spinners. Even a slight turn or variable bounce would have found got him.
putrevus Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 (edited) Indian spinners looked clueless against Klassen.Captain did not help by feeding Klassan to his strength. It would have been comfortable victory if spinners even bowled decent. If you leak more than 12 RPO as Indian spinners did, no batsmen can rescue them. So called trump card spinner has come up extremly short in two important finals in span of six months. People wanted him to replace Ashwin in home tests. Edited July 1, 2024 by putrevus
Gollum Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Kuldeep will do better in tests, WTC final mein hoga iska redemption. Rohit blundered by giving KD an over in PP, he is not a defensive bowler, spread the field and allow him to attack.

Most of them are timers. So you have to absolutely nail especially when you hit into the wind. If you look at how they orchestrated the attack they consciously used the wind to their advantage. If you look at Stubbs who used his long levers targeted the leg side boundary with the wind. He got success until he over did and got bowled. Same way QDK, Klassen targeted the side where wind was blowing. They recognized there was no spin whatsoever. So they just hit through the line and used the wind. India's only option is seamers. I bet DUbe would not have conceded that many runs had he bowled. Tactical error.

That is how you should think. Ofcourse at Barbados seamers are going to be mighty effective compared to spinners. It is an open secret.

Parag actually has been performing in all formats in domestics, he was talented for sure but this season he has finally curbed down his antics...is a good fielder, can bowl some useful off spin and is a total package. Abhishek too has been a revelation in shortest formats...though I feel he is more like Travis Head and suited on the pattas, his ability to hit monstrous sixes against spin specially is a delight, plus is a very underrated left arm spinner, I wonder why he don't bowl often in IPL. Jaiswal & Rinku both have proven themselves so far, I have big hopes with Tilak as well, kid is super talented and just to find himself. 4 out of the above 5 names are lefties and 3 of them Re decentish bowlers as well. Jaiswal's leg spin can be a lottery as leg spin is hard to master. Tilak & Parag are offie while Abhishek is left arm orthodox.
vvvslaxman Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Last ICC final we won spinners played a major role.. Ashwin 3 overs 2 for 6 played a major role in taking the game deep. Also bowled 20th over. Spinners conceded (Ashwin/Jadeja/Raina) 58 runs in 11 overs defending a meager total of 124.
