I can't stop watching the greatest two minutes of Olympics Basketball by one player. That is Captain Chef Curry's four consecutive 3s, each one more difficult than the previous.

All expensive sports tbh except triathlon and rugby 7. 

Dint know they were that good in track cycling. Holy crap one pro cycle costs 70 k.

Anyway don't care now. In my eyes she is at least a silver. Wrestlers did well despite the federation chwtiyapa. Hope we find the right direction again. 

Chewtiyappa was done by players, not federation.

Its a decent campaign when you compare to last Olympic. Same number of medals ( inc Vinesh).

 

But what set it apart is the missed medal.

 

Tokyo Olympic - we missed 5 medals but in reality it was just one  genuine medal missed when Deepak Punia lost his bout in last 10 second after being ahead. All others were no chance - Both boxing bouts were 0-5 unanimous while Aditi Golf 4th and Women Hockey team 4th were mostly punched above their best but still not good enough.

 

Paris Olympic - There were 10 overall medals missed this time but the genuine missed medals were 6 which is a high count. Nishant was robbed in his boxing bout, Manu Bhaker had medal on her platter, Lakshya sen has no business losing both semifinal and Bronze match after being ahead in both matches, Nishu Dhahiya injury in wrestling QF after being ahead 8-1, Chanu error of judgement in Weightlifting when she just had to pick 112kg in his last lift but went for tougher 114kg and lost by just 1 kg and Archery mixed double couldn't ask for an easier opponent in Bronze medal match.Even Arjun Babuta in shooting was vying for Gold with just three rounds left.

 

Overall the medal could easily be double digit with little bit of clutch, mental toughness and luck.

 

Hope we break some new barrier in NY 2028. We will have Lakshya sen  in his prime possibley, Neeraj Chopra to play his last Olympic, a clutch of good shooters, a solid Hockey team and a wide array of wrestlers. And not to forget cricket.

Biggest flops from Indian contigenent ( those who were expected to do well)

 

1) Satwik-Chirag: Expected to bring a medal but crashed out in QF after winning first set.

 

2) Sift Kaur Samra - Hyped after breaking world record in shooting and being No.1, Kaur fall was disgraceful. Finished almost last at her event.

 

3) Antim Panghal- Among all wrestlers, Antim was hot favourite to bag a medal. But he was pinned 0-10 in less than a minute and never looked comfortable.

Agree.

Shooting is very high variance so we can excuse shooters. Even some of chinese world no. 1 finished outside finals qualification.

But Antim's performance was really questionable, she had a very favorable draw as well. Looks like had a bad weight cut ?

Chirag-Satvik looked rusty and lacked their usual sharpness throughout the campaign. On song, they could have put that Malaysian pair away easily but not to be.

Although this always happens with all countries. At the end, it's a game of probability.

 

Have 40 medal hopes, 20 real solid prospects and get 10 medals...as was the case this time except that we could not get 10 medals which we should have.

 

Even abhinav bindra was saying we were very competitive, more than the last time and that he is encouraged.

 

I think if the progress continues, we should achieve 15 or thereabouts in LA.

 

Also, there are only 12-13 countries who win 20 medal or more. But 20 is a bit far still, we will talk about that once we reach 15.

Some of the positives I think about LA games

 

1. It is 4 years, more time to groom future prospects, we have a 16 year old girl shuttler Hooda already ranking in 40s in singles. Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand in women's doubles are very young and have already beaten top seeds in some tournaments. 

Tokyo was just 3 years back with a commonwealth and an Asian games in between so things couldn't change much.

 

2. At least from looks Cricket, Hockey, Manu, Aman, Lakshya, Neeraj, SatChi, Ritika, Antim(if she stays around) will be our gold hopes. After Tokyo other than Neeraj I couldn't see any gold hopes. Bajrang was already too old and Ravi Dahiya never looked that convincing. Hockey team looked like no. 3 at best but they have looked much better this time.

 

3. In Archery our younger batch looks way more clutch than choker oldies. We can expect medal in it next time, while after Tokyo I couldn't think of any medal hopes in this.

For me the disappointment was

A) Badminton
B) Wrestling ( 1 medal and potentially one more).

Archery is perennial disappointment. Boxing I think you are at mercy of judges. Weightlifting we had one contestant.

Shooting as people said has a high delta. India need 10 to 12 medal shots in this for continuous returns. Ultimately wrestling is which will determine Indias fate. Need 10 to 12 contenders across the genders.

Only way India will breach the 10 medal barrier is if we have 20 to 25 contenders in shooting and WRSETLING. We can expect 2 to 3 medals from add on sports be it Badminton or Hockey or Weightlifting or Boxing.

India is targeting jumps n throws in the athletics. But I think it will take a few cycles.

What will your expectations be for LA medal tally, looking at the progression of Indian sports in last 10 yrs?

Hard to speculate at this point. 6 to 7 medals appears to the status quo for india atm.

As I keep saying our potential can be judged only by the numbers we have in shooting and wrestling.

The number of athletes metric is misleading. Hockey is like 16 in men and women. So 32 and max you can get 2 medals.

I will say if india have 10+ in wrestling and another 10+ in shooting we will have the chance to touch 10 overall medals (not looking at colour).

Another problem we have is 90% of our medals appear to come from uttrakhand hp punjab and olympics power house haryana.

West has 1 individual medal last 4 Olympic cycles

South has 2 individual medals last 4 Olympic cycles

East has 0 medals last 4 Olympic cycles

North east has 2 individual medals last 4 Olympic cycles


Gangetic belt 0 individual medals Olympic cycle.


Supposed industrial powerhouse states like maharashtra tn guj and karnataka have very very poor medal returns. (I hail from maharashtra and returns of 2 individual medals in nearly 100 years is pathetic).
