Tripathi was never going to be a long term solution. He just like Jitesh Sharma or Nitish Rana is a stop gap player. Doesn't have much or a PR backing or social media hype. Indian Cricket and BCCI focus only on the marketable names. Gollum 1
vvvslaxman Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 It is wrong to drop him like they have been doing for the last few years. Kuldeep, Kishan. many guys got dropped right after decent outings. They go for marketable players. Ruturaj is not a marketable player. He has definitely displayed some unique skill set like producing big overs in the back end. HE is a bit like how Rohit at the start. Terrific six hitter. It is a case of intense competition for the same spot. Jaiswal, Gill, Ruturaj, Samson, Abhishek all fight for the same spot. They just go with "pecking order". Gill and Jaiswal. But they can be rotated. One series Gill and Jaiswal. In t he next series Ruturaj and ABhishek. I don't see why they should be discarded permanently just because he is associated with CSK. Just remember Kishan was uber selfish for a long time yet kept getting chance. He never played a good T20 knock like RUturaj did against Australia. He is reasonably matured and calculative player. You cannot load your side with imeptus players end up getting rolled over cheaply in a crunch game. RIshabh pant has a large sample of mediocre performances in T20. But he keeps getting chances because of his Test credentials. They have to identify a core group and persist with them. RUturaj belongs to that group even if he is a secondary choice. PLayed some crunch IPL playoff knocks. tweaker and Gollum 2

I think fans invent reasons for players getting dropped. But truth is vast majority did not deserve to be dropped. KL Rahul kind of guys are exceptions as they have failed in many crunch games. Hooda getting dropped is justified as he is limited with his role play. Gollum 1

Biggest turn off for me was he had zero off side game. Abhishek otoh has all ingredients... Moving ball will have every player struggling even Head Warner Buttler struggle but he has all around shots and his off side game for a left hand batter is extremely strong. He hits effortlessly against the spin. Tilak Varma has probably been binned way too soon. But he is extremely young & can make a comeback post next IPL. Gollum 1

It is a good headache to have. Too many potentially good LOI players. Someone who play Tests as well can be used discreetly in LOIs.
Majestic Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 Ruturaj is not dropped permanently. There is a lack of spot so not much can be done. Maybe they wanted to try Riyan Parag for once and see how things go for him. Gives a bit of bowling. My pecking order is :- Jaiswal > Gill> Abhishek> Ruturaj. So, Abhishek getting dropped is a big question in my opinion.

Gill can be there for ODIs and Tests. Or if they want to keep Gill in T20s, play him at 3 where Kohli used to play. Let Jaiswal & Abhishek open and let Gill come in at 3 as his game is more suited to 3 like Kohli instead of going after it in PP. In T20s Abhishek is the future alongside Jaiswal. They bat with SR of 160 (Jaiswal) and 170+ (Abhishek). Would prefer them over Gill as openers any day. Together they can win you matches on their own in PP itself.

Yup, he did more than decent and played just like a right-handed Raina! He should've been persisted with along with Venky Iyer. It looks like team management and selectors have their preferred players and others. If you're not on the preferred list you get couple of nominal chances and no matter what you do they move on. Tripathi, Venky and Varun C are part of that unlucky group. They gotta move to CSK or MI to get a proper shot. Gollum 1

Gill should not be part of t20 and his focus should be test and odi. We are grooming Gill as next captain, Jaiswal is going to be carry forward Kohlis legacy. Abhishek will come back strong.

Abhishek may very well go the Prithvi Shaw, Karun Nair or Ishaan Kishan way if not encouraged despite performances. He has done everything that was asked of him and the result is he's dropped from the team. At the very least they could've taken him and a couple of other folks on the fringes so they can be with the squad.
Lord Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 Why so much focus on Tukuraj? Samson are Abhishek are dropped too and are much better. Even Jaiswal dropped from ODIs

Infact I wanted them to take umran as well but I understand why they left him.
