Seems some software bug its high time software is not included in critical systems like aircraft, automobiles, etc. But it is included in the name of "development" and "progress", which is only a code word for cost cutting. Rest in peace to those dead in this mishap.
bharathh Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 This can't be just a software bug. The systems must have been fried as well. The plane would have had to come to a complete stop for it to fall like that. Anyways scary af! I hope the find out the reason this happened!
jf1gp_1 Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 68 dead. Some would be going on trip or returning from one, business or meet family. just sad.
zen Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 The plane appears to be an ATR, which are used for short haul flights.
zen Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 Never seen anything like this. It is as if the plane hit a bad patch of turbulence and its systems died.

We have had our crashes, but very related to software. This I believe is ATR as reported in the news Navigation has a lot connected to real-time external issues like weather velu 1
EnterTheVoid Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 (edited) Pilot here. That's not a "spiral". A spiral is a steep descending turn. In a spiral, the plane is still flying. The outer wing is flying faster than the inner wing. The speed is off the charts and the plane is subjected to high G loading. Spirals are very dangerous as the plane is subjected to forces greater than what it is built to and certified for. From the video alone, it looks like a "spin". Spins are usually nose down and the plane rotates around it's vertical axis. But this looks like a flat spin than a typical nose down spin. In a flat spin, the controls are useless. And it's ejection territory. Edited August 11, 2024 by EnterTheVoid coffee_rules 1

G Force is a measure of acceleration. Acceleration is the change in velocity over a time interval. If the direction or the speed is changing, the velocity is changing and the body experiences acceleration. Aircraft are certified to operate within certain g's. Problems arise if the aircraft is subject to g forces greater than what it is certified to. From the video, I'd hazard a guess and say it's looks like a stall - spin scenario. And not one of failure from high G loading.

That can be said of many jobs. More people die of traffic accidents than airplane crashes. You shouldn’t work for any auto company. @velu should stop investing in Boeing stock or any hedge fund that invests in BA Edited August 12, 2024 by coffee_rules

Weather or that Malay airplane disappearence - turned out the pilot was a terrorist. Blame the nature of travel for aircrashes. We should go back to horse carriages or ships for travel. Even Titanic happens.
