In Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane, we need a 4th pacer that can bat well.

R!TTER Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 (edited) If you're counting his record outside Asia as a batter then really only Jadeja has a semi decent set of achievements for anyone batting 5 or below. He scored a brilliant 57 in Melbourne and averages 40+ with bat in Australia. Kuldeep's batting is tailender-esque, the one shot he like to play a lot is drive on the up vs pace but outside Asia, such shots are exactly what bowlers want you to play. Bumrah is a tailender himself, what is there to look at his average? The 35 he got vs Broad in one over was a fluke, that's it.
R!TTER Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 So why are you bringing his batting vs other tailenders? At least he has a proper technique to survive, who among the others can you say that? And don't tell me you suddenly don't rate technique

This is about Australia tour and we have to pick three best pacers purely on bowling, even though they maybe tailenders with bat. Kuldeep's competition is with Jadeja, Ashwin, Axar, Sundar etc and there are only one or two spot available for that. If we play Jadeja or Sundar at 7, it allows us to pick 4 pacers from #8-11. In Sydney and Melbourne, we can play two spinners, out of which one has to be all rounder, i.e. Jadeja or Sundar and the other spinner can be a choice between Ashwin and Kuldeep. Rest will depend on form of the players that we will get to know in Oct -Nov.
Bigg Brother Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 Unreal to expect India win 3rd consecutive series in Australia. Hope it's not whitewash. Manucrick 1

No we need someone competent with the bat, at least at no.9 - what was the difference between 2018 Eng tour or say 2021 Oz tour with similar strengths at our disposal? The reason Eng won that series was because Curran batted at 7/8 & we won because of Sundar/Thakur at 8-9 or so. A serviceable bowler is fine but we cannot have absolute duds with the bat at 9-11 And by bowler I mean any bowler even a spinner! Edited August 13, 2024 by R!TTER

The obvious question that comes out is do we have any pacer who is a proper bat and we can play at 7? The answer is No. We have a spinner who is a proper bat and that is Jadeja. That leaves us with #8-11. I would like to have 4 pacers in venues like Brisbane and Perth. In Sydney and Melbourne, we can play one of kuldeep or Ashwin alongwith Jadeja. Ashwin can bat at 8 while Kuldeep is at best a no.9. In Adelaide which will be a pink ball test, India can actually play 7 batsman + 4 bowlers because the pink ball will assist the bowlers. So, to conclude, I would say, in Perth and Brisbane, go with 4 pacers + 1 all rounder ( Jadeja/Sundar are the only viable options currently and both are spinners). In Sydney and Melbourne, go with 3 pacers + 1 spinner + 1 all rounder. In Adelaide pink ball test, play 7 batsman + 4 bowlers. Edited August 13, 2024 by Majestic

Traditionally Sydney was the most spin friendly surface in Oz in the last 30-40 years but it has also changes massively post 2010's as in a lot less spin friendly. Did you see the NZ tracks in their series vs Oz & then what they serve us? If the pitches are drier spin will be a major factor on days 3-5 but the question is can we stretch games that far? Take any major series wins by away teams over last 20 years & the best teams have always lasted a good 4-5 days in all tests. If we get surfaces that can aid spin towards the end of the test we should not hesitate to pick 2 spinners, or 3 if it's really going to be turning square! Edited August 13, 2024 by R!TTER

vvvslaxman Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 There is an uncertainty about this batting line up. Pant post injury is not quiet the same. Gujarat used to take the blow on to his body knowing any attempt to lplay will coat his wicket. Current team is full of stroke players. They will give you chances. Not saying we want pujara. But need someone who can show temperament.

First class Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 A fit Shami, with Bhumra and Siraj make a very good pace attack , at par with Aussies but in their own condition Aussies will have an edge in batting as Kohli is not at his peak anymore . Jaiswal can announce himself as the best young batter in the world and has great chance to have a very successful tour. Finally a very competitive test series , great for the cricket purests like me .

Stan AF Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Unless otherwise injuries or some freak reason , India will win 3(atleast 2)test matches if they go in with full strength.
