We won on greenest Joburg pitch in 2018 as well.

What is interesting is not so much how green the pitch is but the pace of the pitches. 

 

Unlike other Asian sides, our team seems to thrive on really skiddy pitches. 

 

Barbados is the 2nd fastest pitch in the Caribbean after St. Lucia.

 

Centurion pitch 3 years ago was rated by Cricviz as one of the fastest pitches ever since ball tracking started. 

 

Perth and Wanderers are, on average, the 2nd fastest and the fastest pitches , respectively, in the world.

 

 

They struggle on slightly slower pitches with seam and swing and that's probably why they consistently used to get hammered in England by Jimmy and co.

What was so historic or special about Joburg 2006?

 

Perth 2007 was special I remember well because of several reasons - All the drama that took place since the start of Sydney test, it was the fastest pitch where teams usually play all pace attack, opposition was Australia, the no.1 ranked team in the world.

St. Lucia is the fastest by far.   But Barbados is still quicker than Guyana and the rest.  Maybe Sabina Park is a bit quicker at times.

Every pitch is slow now in WI compared to in 80s and early 90s. SA and Aus are the only two countries left where you come across genuinely fast surfaces and even there pitches have slowed down a bit.

Gabba win feels like fluke since West Indies also defeated them 8 months ago.

Perth 2008 still holds a special place for me, maybe biased I am.

 

Even though there were no Warne, McGrath or Martyn, that Aussie side was still considered to be an invincible side at that time.

Perth 2008 is also the best ever win for me because this happened in pre IPL era.

 

Before IPL, Indian cricketers were not so familiar or close with Aussie cricketers, and the bouncy hard surfaces were not something that we were used to back then. So playing against Australia on their home turf brought about that feeling of being on a foreign land, facing really fast bowlers on lively wickets.
