putrevus Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Warne was outbowled by Sachin and Bhajji in India in some matches including famous Kolkatta test.It does not make either Bhajji or Sachin better bowlers than Warne. Jadeja is a match winner in his own right. But Ashwin the bowler in India is miles ahead of Jadeja, That is why Ashwin is the GOAT test cricketer for India.
Gollum Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 (edited) Pity I missed out on Ashwin's 100 when chips were down. But solidarity with persecuted folks of Bangladesh. Yesterday hundreds of Chakma homes torched down in Chittagong, some innocents dead as well. Chakmas are mostly Buddhists but some Hindus as well, indigenous people of Chittagong Hill Tracts, one of the most persecuted communities in the world, right from 1947. Rest of the world is sleeping, all eyes only on Palestine and Ukraine. Edited September 22, 2024 by Gollum putrevus, Laaloo and sensible-indian 1 2

Gollum Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 For a spinner to have SR of just 50, hats off. ATG fast bowlers have those numbers.

Ashwin plays even in TNPL and is in constant process of bettering himself. This bozo Kohli is too big to even play Duleep trophy. I just saw the highlights of his innings.I have not seen Ashwin play those shots before.
goose Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Kumble has about 500 less runs and 100 more wickets yet most would agree it's silly to say he is in the mix for the title.

Ashwin has played enough matches away to content for it. Why you keep quoting Avgs. Ashwin the bowler is the reason why Jadeja has those bowling figures. Edited September 22, 2024 by putrevus Lord 1

That is why I was so frustrated when he skipped the Eng series earlier this year, he should have made use of the momentum and got a few 100s under his belt, not good for a 35 year old to take such a long break from test cricket. And he needed some runs after the lean patch of 2020-23. Missing one of two tests for baby is understandable, but all 5? Come on now, that is overkill.
Gollum Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 No need to get into fights on this thread folks, today is a happy day. Even if you ignore the cricket, we won gold in both men's and women's section in the chess Olympiad. Men created a record which even Kasparov's Russia couldn't in the past No need to fight over Ashwin, Jadeja, both are greats and I am sure both appreciate each other's greatness. sensible-indian 1
R!TTER Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Because you make baseless arguments about the "best bowler" in India or best ever test cricketer! Jadeja oubowled him in 2016 Chennai test, 2017 Ranchi test, 2017 Delhi test - all flat/dead tracks. Ashwin's overall a better bowler but he isn't miles ahead of Jadeja, that's just BS which Ashwin fanboys/girls like to bring up every now & then.

But he cannot be living in past forever. This was golden chance to improve himself by playing domestic cricket.Unless he is afraid to be found out by even local bowlers, I don't see the reason why he skipped Duleep trophy.
R!TTER Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Jadeja's bowling gone done post 2021 Sydney injury, that's for sure. Ashwin's done better in the last 2-4 years than the 2017-2020 period.

One Duleep trophy match wouldn't have made a big difference. Even Ashwin, Jadeja skipped it. At their age, managing workload is also important. Let's pass the verdict after few more tests. I am optimistic because of the RSA series, this test I didn't watch, so can't comment.
R!TTER Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 It's also probably to do with Ashwin being just a one-format bowler now; he can focus on tests 100% similar to how Warne got better post-2003, though not at his peak. Jadeja's played fewer ODI's in 2017-2020 post that CT hammering; his bowling and physical fitness were at their peak. If he gives up ODI, hopefully by himself, he can get some of his test bowling rhythm back. Just play the IPL and tests, and give up everything else. Gollum 1

From what I saw against England, both have lost their zip, look old/jaded. Kuldeep is our best spinner currently, pity he misses out so much. He can easily play ahead of Siraj. Axar too is unlucky, will make it just as a batsman in top 6, bowling is a bonus.
vvvslaxman Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Why do we have to pit Jaddu against Ashwin. Besides INdia has won a lot of series without Jadeja at home just with Ashwin. In the last 10 years India has played 6 tests without Jadeja at home won 5 of them.

My problem with Axar as a pure batsman is his ceiling is low. If he scores 70 or 80 we are okay with that. Typically someone whose bowling is considered a bonus has to make 100s. At this point he can take up the spot of KL Rahul for sure since we don't want him. But in the long run a genuine specialist batsman will take up the spot. May be someone like sarfraz khan's brother who can actually bowl.
Majestic Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 (edited) I would say Tendulkar and Gavaskar are top 2. Then Ashwin has a case. Edited September 22, 2024 by Majestic

Obviously Sachin will be considered as the greatest given the eras he played through fixing era, non-fixing era. Few things miss in his CV. But given his longevity in both formats and the sheer impact he created as a player is unmatched. It is not a coincidence BCCI's clout increased during the rise of Sachin.
