gakgupta Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 Is this just a honeymoon period for him? His stats are almost unbelievable He doesn't look special but needful ... Good he got a century in England as well
cowboysfan Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 He looks very good to me,can play all the shots and i dont see any obvious weakness. Haarkarjeetgaye 1
Chakdephatte Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 Damn! Had just logged in to create a thread on him. He has broken almost every record. Only batsman to score at least one fifty in each of his first 8 tests. Quickest to 1000 runs since 1950 5 centuries in just 13 innings. What even is this? Peak Smith level purple patch at the start of career. nevada 1

Majestic Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 "There is a lot to admire about him", says Kumar Sangakkara.
Majestic Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 (edited) I think he has also played a key role in bringing some happiness in SL camp in last few months. SL have started getting better with him and Nissanka showing glimpses of their ability regularly. Matthews, Chandimal, Karunaratne all average over 40. Kusal Mendis is the most inconsistent of them all but he is made to keep wickets so that he can gain some confidence. Edited September 27, 2024 by Majestic
Gollum Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 3 test series in Lanka now will be dope. 2015 one was a treat to follow, maybe roles reversed this time, up and coming Lanka vs a still strong Indian team but on the older side. Lone Wolf and New guy 1 1
Gollum Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 Hope he is able to sustain, problem with many SL batsmen post Sanga. Around 2015-16 (maybe even till 2017-18), I thought Mathews would be an ATG and as good if not better test batsman than Smith, Root, Kohli, KW etc. Still a top player but underachiever.

R!TTER Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 Does he? Maybe - but it's highly unlikely, does no one remember Ajantha or SoK even? If he's good/great he can probably avg above 50 over a longish career, anything over 60 is simply not possible today & no you *ing Donny's lovers cult he wouldn't avg 90 either

R!TTER Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 They are past their best & have poor records in Oz/India/SA/Eng & NZ as well. Basically HTB & the odd good knock here & there.

SA have sort of underestimated them again & given them easier venues like Durban and PE where they lost to Lankans in 2020. They are hosting Pak in Highveld like they do with India in Centurion and Newlands. It will be a tight test series with SA batting looking extremely weak on paper against Lankans. Asitha Fernando, Kumara, Vishwa the left armer & Rathnayake the Fast bowling A/R is a decent attack as they showed in England. tweaker 1
Ultimate_Game Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 He's like Steve Smith... came on to the scene as a spinner but is turning out to be the best bat of his team and a potential ATG
MechEng Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 He will be Bumrah's bunny. You heard it here first...
