But in reality, i will say this - the Euros REALLY REALLY REAAAAAAALLY needed American military presence for another reason and this is why Europe ALWAYS simps for MORE american military presence as a rule of thumb:
Europe is not North America. Europe is like its own middle east or asia: they have their regional India pakistan or pakistan vs afghanistan or their own iraq vs irans. That have 100s of years of festering history.

Back when WW2 ended, Europe was quite HAPPY with yankees doing the policiing and doing as little as they could to arm up because the biggest threat from Europe arming up is TO Europe itself from European eyes. The germans would be nervous if France went all military mode, so would the poles if germans followed suit and if someone got too ahead of their neighbour in this race, they would seek to alter their kashmir border scenarios.

This mutual distrust and fear of each other IS the main driving force for why Europe itself is relatively demilitarized compared to its economic size and always simps for more yankee military presence.
Coz they know that with Yankees ruling in Europe, no other Euro will go start **** with another Euro ever again and they prefer the security blanket of Yankee bro that way.

This is the main overarching angle for Euros sucking on yankee teat and liking it that way: Europe doesnt trust itself to become a military power again and given their history, who can blame them ???

This is also why Europe will do everything in its power to keep NATO going and american presence ON continental europe.

But As Jaishankar said, Europe often forgets that while it wishes its problems to be the world's problems, it never sees the world's problems a its problems.

Yankees didnt show up and spend trillions over decades posting their troops and supplies tens of thousands of kms from home in foreign bases and paying for it out of do-goodery. They were there paying a bribe to keep out communism. They didnt sign up for being common police for Europe so Europe doesnt kill Europe. That was ancillary to american goals but almost equal measure 2nd big objective FOR europe itself.

Welp, communism gone, Rooskie no real threat to Europe anymore. So US main driver interest for staying in European bases and spending **** tons of money to stay there is now gone. But Europe thinks its former colony must kowtow to European interests. Aint gonna happen.

He is easily the greatest politician ( globally ) over the last 4-5 decades.  I don't know any other leader who can adapt to different personalities and know, when to be firm and when to soften up for national interest.

I take such folklores with a spoonful of salt.  Because that could also be Shivaji Maharaj who dismantled the Mughal empire.

i am being faceteous and running with some remarkable similarity between priest king and young modi in looks. Relax, lol.I aint gonna actually start a god cult of him...at least not till he dies coz we made that mistake with Gandhi and he went full retard before he was bumped off....

 

There is some good news against China - the land war will be minimal and war will be mostly ariel and missiles. So its restricted warfare theatre, even though it heavily favours China in numbers, it does heavily favour the defender in heavily mountanous areas - precision missile attacks and air strikes deep in mountain valleys are difficult to execute and easy to prevent if alert.

What India needs to realize is that India can compete defensively with China- key word defensively, not offensively- provided India doesnt drop the ball and keep its eyes on the ball. India already has parity or even advantage in army over the sector for defensive war purposes, it needs more roads to lock the land theatre. And that means, if we can hold down the front for another decade, all is well, since we have enough deployment numbers and will have enough road infra to rapid deploy and trap chinese incursions INTO Indian territory on land.

What India desperately needs is more air squadrons and air defence coverage to neutralize PLAAF. If India can do that in next 20 years, all ees well from an overall geopolitical long term scenario. But again, India has some 'cushioning' in this regard, because Indian Navy is strong enough to *up Chinese trade via Malaccas if worst came to worst, so a total air war from China into India even with IAF being lallu-panju will be thought of twice by China. Because IN is still strong enough to operate from Indian ports AND defeat PLAN in the BoB/Arabian Sea region where Chinese trade flows by. However, this luxury wont last, because as soon as Ukronazi war is over + 10 yers and Belt &Road posterchild Kazakhstan is given the go-ahead, a lot of trade to Euro will shift over land via rail over Russia. So its not an indefinite window of luxury for India, which means India still has 15-20 years to get its house in order in air force to keep China away.

Unfortunately the reality does not match  expectations. 

 

With all due respect - while our jawans and officer level personnel are really amazing...we have the worst 2* and 3* generals for the most part - army, navy and airforce.

 

Just look at the incidents of 27th Feb 2019.  PAF raided our airspace in broad daylight,  and what good was our air defense system ?

 

Our air defence shot down  our own Mi-17 helicopter  - killing 6-7 people in trying to shoot PAF.

While all the focus was on Abhinandan's return - this did not get the level of coverage. 

What kind of gross incompetence is this, when your air defense is not able to different between a friend and foe aircraft ?

 

Thats why I find it to be terribly dishonest when these shameless 2-3* chiefs talk about how ready they are for 2 front war. F them. Shameless incompetent A.holes.

 

Every single time we are caught with massive failures- be it Kargil 1999 against Pak,  or 1962 / 2020 against China. Hell even regular Bangladeshi civilans just find ways to sneak in ( this is not the same as Mexicans entering US illegally ), Bangladeshis and Rohingyas are a threat to India.

 

Hell even 10 people managed to sneak in India on a boat and cause 26/11. How easy is it to just walk into India ?? Shameful. 

 

We are beyond woeful.  

 

How is it that despite having a defense budget 8-9 times Pak, we are not able to crush them - like we should easily ???

 

It comes to pathetic incompetent leadership at the service chief level - and maybe even 2* level all round.

 

On top of that there is still massive babu bureaucracy in the MoD with brainless idiots in charge. 

 

Russian Platforms + Israeli platforms + French Platforms + American platform ---- and integrate all of these technologies, hoping for seamless outcomes ---utterly brainless idiots. 

 

Take 20 years for procurement of high end equipment through " rigorous" tests, so much so that at the time of acquisition, the world has already moved forward 1 generation.

 

We have zero hopes in hell  till MoD bureucracy is not dismantled and we have more competent service chiefs.
