Sorry guys....I know i spewed negativity and anger here past few days...but it was necessary to reverse the jinx...You guys know it !!!

 

Forget about chess, Gukesh's poise, grace and maturity is WAYYYYY beyond his years.

 

May he retain the World Champion title for atleast 10 more years. 

 

He kept on grinding Ding in a draw position...very Magnus like play today.

Gukesh ! Congrats for recording your names in the history of Chess as the youngest world champion. I already said this championship wouldn't go to the tiebreaks two days ago and this happened. Thank you for keeping the Indian flag flying.

@Tillu.. Can you update the title with Gukesh's win..we have the new World Champion

Re: the game, easy to forget the blunder was foced thanks to the time advantage Gukesh maintained. No doubting he deserved this win cause of his grind

Gukesh is so humble. In press conference after the win, he acknowledged that despite being World Champion now, Magnus is still the best player. And he wants to get there. Hats off for such maturity at this age! :hatsoff:

Ding didn't really deserve the World Championship since he never even won the candidates tournament. So no wonder when he lost, some of these guys felt that it was not worthy of the World Championship. It's not about Gukesh, more about Ding.

 

But to be honest, many World Championships have been decided on blunders. Even when Magnus played Nepo, they played out many draws until Nepo committed a blunder.... and then he made another blunder. But then because Magnus was the best player in the World, nobody really said that Magnus won because of childish blunders by his opponent. 

 

Gukesh kept putting Ding in uncomfortable positions that Ding was not prepared for. He kept having time pressure on Ding and Ding ultimately cracked. We have to give Gukesh a lot of credit for finding opponent's weaknesses and playing accordingly.

@Tillu thread title can be changed to 18th undisputed world chess champion. FIDE WC has a different meaning after the PCA split by Kasparov in 1993. 1993-2006 had two champions, PCA (more legit due to lineage) and FIDE (like WC). After that reunification happened in 2006-07. Also FIDE as an organization came much later, Steinitz is regarded as the first world champion and matches were organized privately those days.
