In fact that CT loss to Lanka messed up our decision making for the final, benching Umesh/Shami, opting to field first etc. 

 

Lets compare

 

Iyer made a quick ton. Great but pitch aided him big time and he came in 100-2 or something. It was flatter than that 2017 CT game. To his credit he never slowed down and handled pressure of a KO well. 

 

Shami OTOH got most of those wickets when they were looking comfortable to win. Sure scoreboard pressure was there but these days if pitch is flat, teams back themselves to chase anything. And they nearly. 

 

No bowler came to Shami's performance that day but I'd say Mitchell came close to Iyer's and would have taken them home if not for Shami

UAE also didn't qualify. ICC offered us two options, UAE and Lanka. Read so many reports about PCB/BCCI being in talks with SLC till the final minute. 

 

We lost in Lanka last year due to lack of skills, fair game. But matches in UAE are toss/luck dependent. I would rather have us lose due to shortcomings than bad luck (anyway umpires will do their bit to make all marginal calls against us).

So many ball missed the edge and stump…. It was his day and since than its always his day against us in crunch moment. I felt bad omen as soon as he grabbed that Rohit’s catch, he is fatty by Aussies standard still took that marvellous catch in crunch situation has actually defined the game direction. Had rohit stayed for just 8-10 more overs we would have scored around 280-290 score.

nah.. with dew coming in kuldeep jadeja became ineffective.. 285 and above with head gone early was our only realistic chance.. the last 6 overs of india innings the pitch resembled a moon crater..slow sluggish.. aus outhought us.. simple

He got run a ball 170 in WTC final few months before that bro. Walked in at 3/70 and he and Smith had a 300 runs partnership on day 1 itself, after we won the toss and inserted them in.

Should have rested kuldeep for ct or even further let him play some more domestic, he is coming after groin injury, its hard to recover fully and sometimes become reoccuring thing.

One injury that end career or render bowlers unless as they can not pivot around the axis that fast.

they produced an edge each, werent completely ineffective due to the pitch. If Head was gone, our bowling on that pitch could have got them.
