Lord Posted February 8, 2025 Posted February 8, 2025 Just now, Gollum said: Bhai, check what happened in the 2017 CT group game against Lanka. 23 SF was almost a carbon copy (Dhawan and Kohli played similar match losing innings), difference was Iyer's freak knock (60 ball 100 is amazing even in a meaningless bilateral against Ireland). Had we ended at even say 350, Shami wouldn't have been able to save us. In fact that CT loss to Lanka messed up our decision making for the final, benching Umesh/Shami, opting to field first etc. Lets compare Iyer made a quick ton. Great but pitch aided him big time and he came in 100-2 or something. It was flatter than that 2017 CT game. To his credit he never slowed down and handled pressure of a KO well. Shami OTOH got most of those wickets when they were looking comfortable to win. Sure scoreboard pressure was there but these days if pitch is flat, teams back themselves to chase anything. And they nearly. No bowler came to Shami's performance that day but I'd say Mitchell came close to Iyer's and would have taken them home if not for Shami Gollum 1

Read so many reports about PCB/BCCI being in talks with SLC till the final minute. We lost in Lanka last year due to lack of skills, fair game. But matches in UAE are toss/luck dependent. I would rather have us lose due to shortcomings than bad luck (anyway umpires will do their bit to make all marginal calls against us). One injury that end career or render bowlers unless as they can not pivot around the axis that fast.

If Head was gone, our bowling on that pitch could have got them.

So basically we need to win 3 out of 4 matches against top teams. Looking at it with this lens India in dubai should have enough dry powder If we drop Rohit and Kohli, and play Iyer and Pant, our chances sky-rocket. But the two fuddus will doom us.
ravishingravi Posted February 8, 2025 Posted February 8, 2025 Ball striking by the new Zealand players was insane.
