Bumrah refused the captaincy owing to his fitness.

That's a concern.

Hinting Bumrah might retire in 2-3 years.

I just hope he ends with 300 test wickets and win a WC for the team.

Fast bowling in Tests is an extremely strenuous job and Bumrah cannot play long series like these .

It will take a serious mental toll as well.

I would rather have picked That CSK bowler forgot his name, not Khaleel the other one, could be like the new Boobi Kumar, instead of Arshdeep. Arshdeep has average FC record, not a test material.

Needs at least 25 injury free tests to do that. He will have to be managed, rotated. We need to have better second and seamer.

Anshul Kamboj ? Yeah even I would've picked him ahead of Arshdeep if not Rana

Conditions this time around are expected to be flatter in England due to BazBall...  Left arm pacer is not a bad option per se.

Arshdeep should play that second A tour game alongside Sudarshan and Gill.

Siraj

Bumrah

Prasidh

Shardul will be your 4 man pace attack come Headingley test.

Kamboj has a pretty high release point, relative to his height. Also seams the ball unlike swinger Arshdeep and bowls tight lines as well.

I think he's part of the A squad. If he bowls well in the A squad , he should be added to the main squad imo.

Kamboj is in the A team

Let's see, Arshdeep is more of a swing bowler and offers that left arm angle

Have to be realistic - can't take a 20 man squad; he was rightly kept out of test side for years and there are others, again rightly, ahead in pecking order based on form in FC and potential. The only spot he could have taken was Nair's. Heck even Sarfaraz didn't make it. And that's not accounting for people like Indrajith who have been excellent FC bats over recent years, if not so much last season

Saying all that, I do think Iyer should have captained the A team

How many remember that Shreyas started off as an opener for Mumbai Ranji and his record breaking season earned him that IPL deal... Not sure what changed after that and he stopped opening. Would say he is more than capable of handling swinging ball

It's not swing but consistency of length that matters. Arshdeep isn't accurate with his length despite being slow.  In England ball moves if you have good seam position for most bowlers.

He started as a sehwag mould batsman who could bat at high SR. He was never known for great technique and Sehwag himself was a failure in England.

Iyer might do well in middle order

Major Setback For India: Captain Shubman Gill To Miss Start Of England Test Series

Earlier, India's chief selector Ajit Agarkar had said that Gill and his IPL teammate Sai Sudharsan would join the India A squad for the second warm-up game. Gill will be busy leading the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025. Hence, the BCCI does not want to rush Gill into a warm-up match before he dons the captain's armband.

India's newly appointed vice-captain Shubman Gill's England tour may not go as planned, as he is set to miss the warm-up game at Northampton, starting June 6. Earlier, India's chief selector Ajit Agarkar had said that Gill and his IPL teammate Sai Sudharsan would join the India A squad for the second warm-up game.

But now, the batter will be busy leading the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025. Gujarat Titans have qualified for the playoffs. With the IPL 2025 final scheduled for June 3, the BCCI does not want to rush Gill into a warm-up match before he dons the captain's armband.

The board had named Gill for the second India A vs England Lions unofficial Test to help him acclimatise to the English conditions before the Test series. But now, the Indian team management has decided to give him rest and not wear him out before the gruelling series. As per an Indian Express report, head coach Gautam Gambhir decided to give Gill rest after a demanding IPL season.

Gill, however, will get to play an intra-squad warm-up game starting June 13 to prepare for the Test series, which begins on June 20 in Leeds. The second Test of the series will be played in Edgbaston from July 2 to 6. The third and fourth Tests are scheduled at Lord's (July 10-14) and Old Trafford (July 23-27), while the fifth Test will be played at the Oval (July 31-August 4).

India squad for England series:

Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akashdeep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.

Just checked Arshdeep's performance in county cricket.  5 matches 13 wickets average 41, strike rate 74. Don't get on what basis he has been picked. ranji record is also nothing special. He is poor man's Nathan Bracken. Similar pace and height but Bracken was darn accurate.

keep picking test team based on IPL instead of first class cricket is just undermining our domestic cricket.

India's preparations for the fourth Test in Manchester have taken a hit with two of their fast bowlers, Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh, picking up injuries that are likely to rule them out of the match. ESPNcricinfo has learned the selectors have decided to add Haryana fast bowler Anshul Kamboj as cover for the final two Tests of the five-match series.
