It's like ODI cricket bowling. So in 9 tests spanned 100 days, bowled 240 overs 27 overs per test, 13.5 overs per innings on average. GOod you know division, substraction. You know nothing baout fast bowling as you claim to be lol

Pat Cummins's action load was different pre stress facture and then post, he is able to transfer the momentum as well easily. Siraj, Umesh, Ishant, Shami there are so many examples in India itself Bumrah on the other hand, bowls as quick as Cummins (if not quicker) courtesy of those 3-4 steps he takes followed by his action. He simply has no runup to build any momentum. Suddenly he is talking like a noob to cricket. Shocking.

The issue was Bumrah's bowling pattern in the last innings he bowled fully. Rohit kept bringing him back for 2 to 3 over spells ( after a full fledged first 2 spells ) without giving him adequate resting time. 4 normal spells per day, of 4 to 6 overs, did not cause any issues in earlier tests. Its a bit similar to 2014 Eng tour where there wasn't much to look for except Kohli poking outside offstump. Its the next generation season, if the characters click early, buzz will build-up. Right now we got the sub plots of Gill's vocal fry, Karun Nair redemption, finding a bowling partner for Bumrah and Root climbing on Mt. Tendu to watch out for
Adamant Posted June 12, 2025 Posted June 12, 2025 I think just like how the Aussies stick with Lyon across all conditions, we should also stick with Kuldeep. There is a q chance that he will come good.

Think he just did drills to ensure that his body was going straighter to the target. Bumrah's run up should have been longer and more rhythmic but it never transpired. As long as you are a hip dominant , momentum driven bowler , you need good run up speeds and longer run ups to make your bowling sustainable. We generally don't produce guys like Thommo/Johnson/late-career Akhtar/Tait - all of whom are slingers and generally don't need high run up speeds to generate pace.

Varun Aaron wasnt a slinger, neither had a long runup, yet was able to generate high pace courtesy of his load and action. There was a bowler from Saurashtra, Kushang Patel, he had a slingly action...though was 138-141k in one game I saw him....Unadkut was bowling 128-130 k in the same with quickest around 133k. Abu Nechim was another one from Assam, who had a slingy action...used to clock 142-143k at his peak in IPL.

Cummins 167 overs in 10 innings, just under 17 overs per innings. Fault of Rohit was he just went on bowling Bumrah for a long spell without break which really grinded him down to the ground. See that spell of bumrah and his condition just before he broke down in BG series and went off from the ground. Was fearing that he will break down and same thing happened. Rohit should have instead used for 3-4 overs for short bursts from bumrah. That was mindless act from Rohit.

It matters if you are at the fag end of the series ( last innings he bowled in the series) and made to bowl without much rest in one innings . You could make out what was his condition - Ab bas , mar jaunga kind of !!

That was literally running running your premier bowler into the ground to cover for your own weakness. Bumrah had to tell Rohit he can't continue and said he can't bowl anymore for the that "spell" to end. Bumrah literally walked away and refused to bowl anymore. You can do this with spinners but not a pacer. Edited June 18, 2025 by Ultimate_Game rollingstoned 1
goose Posted June 17, 2025 Posted June 17, 2025 it might be heresy to suggest this but how much of bumrah's lack of availability in all 5 tests is linked to a desire to make sure his earning potential in IPL is preserved for many years to come. if he does his back in completely, that's his income gone. it wouldnt have happened 15 years ago. understandable. but it should also be acknowledged that IPL is highly likely stopping bumrah from playing all tests especially when you also throw in fact rest between tests has also been squeezed by the T20 calendar.
vvvslaxman Posted June 18, 2025 Author Posted June 18, 2025 India should revisit the idea of 5 test series. 4 test series is fine enough.

Players have short careers and he is one of the few players who are equally impactful in all formats and hence in demand commercially. You cannot blame him for wanting to maximize his career ( and earning capacity) in all formats. Anyone else in his position would do the same. The other thing is that very few fast bowlers play long series of uninterrupted tests anyway. Bumrah is not any different in that regard.

You can't really fault the authorities for providing a product that the audience wants.

It keep the games competitive and more result oriented. ODI's are anyway on its last legs. T20 is too much tilted towards batters, Tests still give something to the bowlers.
