vvvslaxman Posted June 7, 2025 Posted June 7, 2025 He is not injured. Basically he is available. But he will only play 3 tests. Never seen anything like this. Rohit ran him to the ground so much so Bumrah had to say no. Why couldn't they think of using Bumrah judiciously instead of completely missing the test. Ever since Ishant lost his place India lacked an economical bowler who could hold one end up. Other bowlers leak runs and captain goes back to Bumrah again. Rohit pushed it too far. Now we are doing this as a precautionary measure. So we carry an extra fast bowler i suppose.
MechEng Posted June 7, 2025 Posted June 7, 2025 Bumrah is our S400, but Rohit used him like an L70 gun. Need4Speed, Vk1, Lord and 1 other 4
lemsip Posted June 7, 2025 Posted June 7, 2025 The problem was the lack of brains in tmanaging bowling resources. They put all the bowling chips on Bumrah and just assembled the others randomly focusing more on how they could lengthen the batting rather than putting a potent attack together. Someone like Prasidh was in the squad but not used and the others like Harshit, Akashdeep etc playing their first tests overseas were randomly added or removed on a whim.

I don't see any problem in how he was used. That's expected in test cricket. 150 overs over 4 tests, 37 overs per test. It's par for the course. So problem is with Bumrah, not the captain.

Yes the problem is with Bumrah but it is what it is. he has a unique action and a history of serious back injury. Not every bowler can bowl 150 overs in a month and still operate at their top level so rather than putting their heads in the sand, they needed to be realistic. In fact Bumrah skipped a test to manage his workload when England came to India last time even when he was perfectly fit,the series was evenly poised and he was the main threat. When they didn't use that template in Australia, he broke down and was lucky to come away without a serious back issue again.

Starc/Cummins/Siraj bowled in 10 innings. Bumrah bowled those in 8.2 innings at best. Vk1 1
Lone Wolf Posted June 7, 2025 Posted June 7, 2025 They can stretch him to 4 tests if used wisely or in case we have a early finish. There is no major series/tournament this year except this one
Lone Wolf Posted June 7, 2025 Posted June 7, 2025 Calculation says Bumrah can easily play Headingley Birmingham and Manchester Test. Lords and Birmingham have little go time. I don't think we would need Booms in Lords. In Oval he is must. None of the guys can reverse Swing the ball in the squad.

Oval is going to be like subcontinent wicket. So they might go with extra spinner.

Bumrah has to play 2 out of first 3 tests .. for India to have a chance in the series
Lone Wolf Posted June 7, 2025 Posted June 7, 2025 Just now, diga said: Bumrah has to play 2 out of first 3 tests .. for India to have a chance in the series He will play first 2 tests.. sufficient rest in between. Third test in Lords should be no go. Only 3-4 days gap. 4 th test in Manchester would be literally 15 day gap between 2nd and 4th. Can even play 5th if he feels like it. GG and Gill need to be Smart.
Gollum Posted June 7, 2025 Posted June 7, 2025 (edited) Play him in first 2 tests. Don't give Root any early momentum/confidence. We rested Bumrah one test (T4, Ranchi) in last year's home series, he scored a 100 and also did well in 5th test. As long as Bumrah was playing, Root was very quiet. Sure this may pan out like 2021-22 series where Root scored a mountain of runs despite Bumrah. But we have to play our biggest weapon at the start of the series, not when everything is lost or beyond repair. Edited June 7, 2025 by Gollum Stan AF 1
Gollum Posted June 7, 2025 Posted June 7, 2025 Kuldeep must play a lot in this series. Don't make the mistake fo treating Jadeja as a wicket taking option, he wasn't one in Eng even in his peak years. Moreover, Kuldeep has a mental stranglehold over some of their key bazballers as we saw in the home series last year, played on good pitches. lemsip and rollingstoned 2
Stan AF Posted June 8, 2025 Posted June 8, 2025 Rohit or not, this was always going to happen. BCCI and indian cricket have been putting all of their eggs in this one basket for far too long. His bowling action, injuries , recuperation and further prolonging of his international career is a tight rope to walk. singhvivek141 1

Test cricket is the ultimate sport and it is particularly taxing on fast bowlers,I can see Bumrah retiring from Tests if he gets one more Back injury.

Ultimate_Game Posted June 9, 2025 Posted June 9, 2025 Play him in 1st, 3rd and 4th Tests. Or 1st, 2nd and 4th (if India loses the first one).
