True.

I would like to see whether Arshdeep has worked on his good length balls and improved them. This would be the key to his test match and even ODI success.

He has a good yorker, pitched up swinging ball and a good enough bumper. Which is why he is so successful in T20s.

But the longer formats demand a lot of good length off stump balls. He has a high FC average as this area is lacking so far.

In the T20 WC, Arshdeep bowled a good % of deliveries in the 135 to 140 k range, and looked a much better bowler than his default state. He won't be able to do this in tests ... but hope he stays in the 130 to 137 k range instead of slipping in the 120s like Kamboj.

Arshdeep has a higher ceiling than Bhuvi as he is quite tall ( 6'3" ) and hits the bat high. Plus he can push the batters on the back foot with his bumpers.

I like his temperament too. And think he's smart enough to make the required length adjustments.

Plus, with Boom around - who is like an aggressive on-field bowling coach, I think the probabilities of Arshdeep doing well go even higher.

Reminds me of the questions being asked about Boom himself when he first made his red ball debut - he's a white ball specialist, won't be as effective in tests blah blah.

If the ball moves a bit, I feel Arshdeep - provided he gets the right lengths and consistent discipline going - would be a weapon.

Edit:  Wanted to add - what works against Arshdeep - is team balance. At this point we are tilting towards playing Shardul as 4th pacer in all likelihood, who gives us that medium pace swing option already.  So if things get to a point where 'Lord' pulls up injured, then I think Arshdeep's chances increase.  Or if Miyabhai gets hurt, or bowls sub-par and opens the door for him.  Because Boom and Krishna seem to be locks for T1.

Siraj is more lock than Krishna. Indian selections are based on experience more than form

Kamboj bowled well against weak opposition, but is a trundler in the 120s.

Given the hot weather in England, its really not the time to gamble on a rookie trundler.

I would love to see Arshdeep get a debut early in the series, but I dont think he's ahead of Krishna in the pecking order.

I have a soft corner for Bhuvi-type bowlers who swing the ball, and Arshu is left-armer to boot. Plus, he's experienced with whiteball and well equipped to handle/counter the 'bazball' bashing if conditions flatten out.

Arshdeep is same 120s trundler. There are umpteenth Arshdeep like trundlers in county cricket. Arshdeep has nothing special about him, averaged 40+ in county cricket last year. He is poor man's Nathan Bracken.

Apart from Bumrah, there is no really penetrative bowler in the side. That is why Kuldeep needs to play most of the games. Otherwise we will have a team full of trundlers and darters ( Jadeja) who will be meat and drink for bazballers especially in the dry and sunny weather we currently have here.

With Harshit, the pace bowling team looks SOLID

BOOM..super fast n yorker specialist

prasidh..bouncer specialist, short bowling and 4th n 5tump edging the ball and catch in slips- he will be deadly in this.

Siraj- will try his angled deliveries to get some Lbw and some inswingers to get some bowled or some outswing to get caught in slips.

Sardar Arsh- if conditions help swing , then he plays. very smart bowler but he does not get lot of wickets in long form of cricket. he still has a ball which gets him batsmen LBW.

AKASHdeep- perfect line n length- if he is bowling 130 to 137k , his line n length beats batsmen but does not get him wickets. he is effective with perfect line n length and may get edges. He can be inducted into the team only if he is bowling between 132 and 145k, otherwise not.

Shardul is smart, but He is too SLow. He tries to give some easy balls, and batsmen go after him, and that's when he bowls some good balls and gets wickets. But his batting is quite aggressive, if he gets in full form in batting, he is a fair batsman

Nkr is definitely

not the 5th bowler, so I would prefer to not play him in the final 11 . actually I wont prefer to play neither shardul nor NKR unless they are looking good in as a pacer.

Harshit can play ahead of NKR and Shardul too as he is a better bowler and bats a little too.

Harshit may get an opportunity when boom does not play.

Kuldeep won't do anything on these pitches

He has only bowled 9 overs in England 7 years ago so we don't know that. He posed a real challenge to the English batsmen in the last England tour to India and they were struggling to pick him. I can see the likes of Brooks really struggling against him in the air whatever the pitch.

Jadeja is a known quantity and will not provide many wickets. At best he can get through some overs.

If that tour is yardstick, Jadeja did fairly well too apart from contributing with the bat.

Kuldeep hasn't played Tests after that. He is not in any form Tests wise. Would be surprised if he's picked.

Kuldeep was one of the key bowlers in the England tour to India last year. Ashwin, who bowled with him, has been calling out for him to be a no brainer pick in the team after his retirement on his channel

Arshdeep, if given a place in final XI, will be a disaster for India. He will singlehandedly take India out of the match. His dibbly dobbly lollipops which give wickets due to batsmen taking their chances will not work in Tests. He is one of the most overrated players of India.

Arshdeep was trundling even in Duleep Trophy in the 120's.

And he's not as accurate as Kamboj either .

Neither are ideal options and I really hope Harshit Rana magically finds a metronomic line and length .

Completely different conditions.

Check out what Ashwin says about Sundar Jadeja as well

both seem to be at a similiar level, on bouncing tracks ARSH can be a better option.

Kamboj is very accurate and if he bowls 18 to 20 overs he will definitely get 1 or 2 wickets...

if he can maintain his pace between 134 to 139k , he will be effective else not.

same applies to harsh if he bowls below 135k he wont succeed , he has capability to go up to 142k too.

Arsh is more effective with the new ball where as Kamboj may be better with semi new ball.

Kamboj has proved his point by getting some wickets in INDIA A games. He was looking very accurate in the second innings and he was getting a little swing too but his pace was I guess 134 to 137k only which was kind of managed..had he bowled 141K , he would have got a few more lbw's as he nearly beat some batsmen.

saw Prasidh bowling to Nair and Nair getting hurt seems to be on his ribs, he must be wearing a Guard.

he came back to bat.

But Prasidh was bending his back and seemed FAST and Bouncy.

Seems Prasidh is going to BEAT SIraj and even BOOM in the first TEST. He seems in his form of Life.

why?

- See his bowling in IPL, He bowled at least 3 to 4 JAFFA's that went for 4's as hardly 1 slip was placed.

- his speed is UP, his bounce is so much due to his height that batsman who is under 6ft will definitely find it tough.

- he also has developed a slow ball which is under his control now.
