How to take 20 wickets on “BazBall” pitches?

Recommended Posts

England has a template, they bat deep and they play attacking cricket.

Bazball did not work in India as they did not have bowlers to take 20 wickets. Here they have bowlers to take 20 wickets.

What they did yesterday was historic, 370 runs in 4th innings are lot of runs against any bowling attack but with number one bowler in the world it becomes more impressive and they did it twice in a row.

Indian bowlers when attacked lose their nerve and mind.Travis Head has tormented them with that approach in all formats.

What is Gambhir's template, Bumrah and prayer???

That is called cricket.Catches get dropped. They still recovered and set them 370 target.

Your point would have made sense if England ran away with their dropped catches and scored 600 plus.

370 is not a big target on flat pitches.

How many times 370 in 4th innings has been chased by any other team?? Are flat pitches not there anywhere else or in history.

It is high time people stop calling pitches flat because our inept bowling attack cannot do its job.

It was not even close. If they cannot take a single wicket in English conditions till 200 runs then nothing is enough. They were done after openers put 200 on board just like previous match in england was done when openers put on 100 plus .

Take couple of wickets with new ball whole thing changes and that has been missing from Indian bowling in last two chases.

Hold on to your catches and play 4 out and out bowlers.

Rana is out of the squad.. Perhaps send SoS to Kamboj

I'd play Reddy over Karun .. Sundar over Jadeja, Kuldeep over Thakur and Either Kamboj or Akashdeep over PK.

Final chance to Siraj in Birmingham otherwise Lords would heavily suit Arshdeep.

In any case Boom is unlikely to play Lords test.

That's the best combination we can come up with.

England have changed the rules. They now bat like ODIs in tests. So on flat surfaces, 370 isn't as big a total as it used to be. Before teams used to score 3 rpo or less so it would take 120 plus overs to score 370. England score 4 to 5 rpo, it takes them 80-90 overs to make the same total. They are now batting like ODIs and it works when there is no assistance from the pitch. That's 370 wasn't a big total for them. England flat pitches are usually very good to bat on day 4 and 5 as they don't deteriorate.

Three of these results came from England after bazball was started. Big scores are not safe against England. Pakistan recently made 550 or something. Then England made 800 and bulldozed them. You need to outbat them. They are also tactically superior. They know how to bowl on flat wickets for long periods. THey are mentally prepared for it.

Australia defended 370 just fine against same England during last Ashes.

England did not change rules, they have changed their approach which they are allowed to do so.Nobody is stopping Indian team from changing its approach. Don't Indian teams create bunsen burners to suit their spinners at home.

England can score at any RR they want, scoring fast means you also have chance to get them out.

if you cannot take wickets you don't win it is that simple. If you can only take wickets when ball is seaming and swinging all over the place then you have wrong bowling attack.

It is not like India was defending scores in fourth innings in SA where there was bowling help.

Chasing 4th inning totals against Indian fast bowling units has become walk in the park.

They are treating tests like extended ODIs and it works on flat surfaces because they have picked batsmen who can do exactly that. They are no more picking defensive batsmen like Haseeb Hameed or Alistair cook anymore.

Australia has an ATG bowling attack, arguably their second best bowling attack in history after McGrath, Gillespie, Warne, Lee and despite that, they couldn't win Ashes. Australia hasn't won a test series in England since 2002. We won in 2007.

They destroyed Cummins, Haxlewood, Starc in one of the test on flat wicket. Rain saved Australia from losing it badly.   They scored 592 runs at the rate of 5.49

Even they were not spared on flat wickets. Australia failed to stop India earning draw at the SCG.  They couldn't get rid of Ashwin/Vihari for 43 overs. Then Australia failed to stop us chasing 329. Our team was a total rookie team. They are not that great on flat wickets either. This unit of INdia is total rookie unit.

Last time Indian team which could not defend had Bumrah, Shami, Siraj .

When India wins 5 test series in England you can compare it with Ashes.

If Ashes was 3 test series like 2007 Indian series Australia would have won 2-1.

Losing is not the problem, the pathetic display of bowling in 4th innings in two successive tests is the problem.

Indian bowlers made Petersen in SA a hero , he is not even in their team anymore.

Would just keep bowling on top of off stump and wait until they edge it be enough?

I've a simple answer... Take your f**kn catches!

Take catches and you may actually dismiss the opposing batters.

Here is the great Australian attack that could not win with a target of 506 against pakistan. Pakistan batted 172 overs in 4th innings and earned a draw against the great aussies.

This is where Bazball backfires. They can't defend for too long. Jamie Smith could easily have drawn the game by batting another hour.

Pant gave it away in even more easier situation. That guy has a lot of ego. I thiink Australia will sledge him a lot.

while I agree with the ineptitude shown by our team, too frequently we are seeing the incidents of opposition complaining about  Dukes ball.  Does anyone suspect Eng of fixing the box ?

doctored dukes ball + bazballl ....
