Can you help me understand why this declaration made sense? They won with 2 days to spare. Was worshipping Lara so important? Wouldn't it be better for a player from south africa to make history and the country's name be associated with the record over west indies?

Not like he declared at 399.  367 is odd number to declare at. It is almost like he is trying to invent an excuse

Agree, the reasoning and Lara worship was stupid. The declaration didn't make sense given that rate at which they were scoring. The only thing is they got 600+, and they were probably unsure how Zim would score, so wanted to give themselves adequate time to get 20 wickets. That said, the post-match talk about leaving Lara's record unbroken was plain stupid.

 

But my point in general is that individual scores shouldn't matter as much. It's good to have milestone scores, but taking it to the level of blame game was unnecessary in the Sachin-Dravid case.

He would have continued to bat if there was no break. There was a lunch break when he was 367 and didn't come back to bat again.
