Can we play Dhruv Jurel as a pure batsman in Test Cricket?

I believe he is the best option we have for #6 in tests. 
His batting gives much more confidence than Reddy, Sarfaraz and Nair at that position!

Highly unlikely, Indian cricket rarely takes bold decision and generallly typecast crickters.

 

So, for TM -- Jurel is a backup WK. Thats about it.

First time keeping in England is always an ordeal. Pant is best to stay keeper.

Atleast we will have some assurance,

On his inclusion ,I back him ,he walks as a pure batsman 

A guy like him has been in and out of side ,this is unfair

Will make our batting more solid,he can accelerate and rotate strike ,you get quite a number of positives with him in the side

I wonder how Pant will do as a fielder. I don't think he's played much as a non-keeper. Only 2019 WC comes to mind

Pant is not a good fielder. Jurel is a better fielder. Pant can seriously pul lsomething if he runs around chasing the ball.

Reddy is not competing for the same spot.He is playing as an allrounder.

 

Other two are far better batsmen than Jurel who has one single FC 100 and you want him to play as batsman.Why India has no better batsmen in the system that you need to play a guy who has single FC 100 as batsman.

 

Sarfraz should be playing in place of both Jurel and Sai as he is far better batsman than either of them. But idiots have not even selected him.

 

We saw him play as batsman in Perth. Reddy outbatted him in Australia.

 

We had some geniuses wanting Sundar to play at number 4 batsman too.

 

You don't make bits and pieces player like Sundar or WK like Jurel into number 3/4 batsman.Based on one or two innings.

 

You need to have ability to score big and often to play in those positions.That comes from FC stage.

Reddy delivered better with bat in Australia. Jurel had the chance against tired attack. But failed. If you are a keeper you have to do something more than a regular batsman does. Jurel has to reach the level of Jamie smith to be considered as a specislist batsman. technically very good. India's requirement now is no.3 batsman. That is the vacant spot. Whoever is ready can hold on to that spot for a very long period like Pujara, Dravid.

I meant Pant can be in slips or catching positions so he doesn't have to run. Jurel can make it as keeper only.

No.3 needs a bit off stump awareness. They are trying to convert Nair into one. But he has issues against rising delivery. That is why dropping Sai right after one chance was not a good idea. But i think they give preference to Nair more before permanently discarding him. Sai is not going to be permanently discarded. That is my theory of giving Karun more chances. Fair enough. Karun is not young enough to wait for right spot like Gill. He has to play wherever he is told to play to the best of his abilities. So far did not convert on two road pitches.Probably Lords will be his last chance.

Jurel did really well against England in the home series with the bat. Specially in the 4th test. In the first innings there England were all over us and about to take massive lead when he stitched 2-3 decent partnerships with the tail and reduced the difference.

 

Unfair to judge him on only Perth test where every batsman of both the teams failed in the first innings and he got a very rough decision in the second innings.

 

I am in favour of giving him gloves and free Rishabh.
