Can we play Dhruv Jurel as a pure batsman in Test Cricket?

No we need specialist bats if he has to play he has to replace pant or go to domestic and score tons of hundreds big hundred

He is good enough batter. Shown a lot of promise vs England...when the experienced guns will laying eggs.

There is no rule that a keeper batter cant play as pure batter. Sangakkara, Andy Flower...there are so many examples. Jurel has all the potential and time to become a solid no. 3 He is just 23-24 so has all the time in the world to invest upon instead of backing Nair's & Rahul's who are a decade older.

In 2007 series DK was the opener for India. Ended up as the second highest run getter of the series after Sachin.

I meant Pant can be in slips or catching positions so he doesn't have to run. Jurel can make it as keeper only.

No. 3 would require a batsman who can navigate tough periods and bat for long. Vihari had a chance. Now it can be someone like Yash Dhull or Pradosh Ranjan Paul

I haven't seen anything to think he is much better than Pant in keeping, missed some chances too which pant would have taken

What a spellbinding keeping today. Received so much accolates.

He didn't do anything pant didn't do ans also missed a couple of chances Pant would have taken. Pant haters just hype him up as a keeper for no reason.

That series by DK was better than anything MSD achieved in test cricket, that too as opener against some elite new ball swing bowlers. Criminally underrated series.

I thought he kept well for spinners. For pacers Pant is good.Pant has to work on his keeping against spinners.

Yes I agree. But here we are playing with 4 pacers.

I think it's unfair batsmen of the calibre of Jurel and Pant get labelled as keepers forever and never get a chance as pure batsman despite being better than many.

Who knows, like sanga, pant might get an extra gear if playing as a pure batsman.

It's the players who do dual roles who are usually reluctant to give up one. Jonny Bairstow was the same with England.

For example, if you left the choice to Pant he would always choose batting at number 5 and keeping wickets full time. The decision to play a player purely in a batting slot can be taken out of the player's hands and should be made by the TM or selectors.

If Jurel wants to claim a spot in the team as a pure batter, he needs to go through the process of making his case..bat up the order for his state, put a run of big scores together and then target the appropriate available slot in the Indian batting order which for the moment seems to be firing OK. The clear vacancy is at number 3.

Jurel or Sai deserve a go ahead of Karun Nair. Nair has shown that he can't do more than 20s and 30s even when he's set and the pitch is flat. He's not cut out for intl cricket just like so many others such as Mark Ramprakash, Hick etc. He should play domestics and this Test should be the end of Nair's intl cricket. Don't need any more passengers.
