He is known for making some statements like this. I am not sure that is what he said. It was something about pitch. THey could have amicably sorted it out.
goose Posted July 29, 2025 Posted July 29, 2025 lets not jump to conclusions, for all we know the groundsman slept with gambhir's missus vvvslaxman, sage and BacktoCricaddict 3
vvvslaxman Posted July 29, 2025 Posted July 29, 2025 Gaut is known for taking shots at all the old players from time to time lol

Software job is a much sought after job. He is a coach plus a public servant. So he needs to have some standard. Bad optics for sure. But not necessarily wrong.
The Realist Posted July 29, 2025 Posted July 29, 2025 Where was Rahul when all this was going on? Promote a cage match/hell in a cell: Gambhir "Groundman" Gambhir v Lee "Touchy Guy" Fortis. Either before toss on day 1 or during lunch. Pure cinema. BacktoCricaddict 1

ENglish media has its own version. From Daily mail they have shared the intervew of Kotak Kotak later said: ‘They had sent a man to send a message for us to stay 2.5 metres away from the pitch. We were wearing joggers. We know curators are possessive about the square. What he said about the head coach is his opinion, and I don’t want to comment. We did nothing wrong; we were wearing rubber spikes. ‘People are highly skilled and intelligent. None of the bowlers were even wearing spikes. You can be protective but not arrogant. It is not an antique that you can’t touch. He said we are trying to grow the grass. At the end of the day, it’s a cricket pitch.

So, no point speculating. As for tone, yeah, someone in his position would do better to avoid such distractions/bad optics.

Could have settled amicably. He could have just said "We will make sure we are away from the surface". BacktoCricaddict 1

mishra Posted July 29, 2025 Posted July 29, 2025 For every statement there are three components 1. Tone 2. Content 3. Context The reaction of Gambo clearly indicates that atleast point 1 or point 2 or both was inappropriate in Groundsman statement. The clarification by ground staff as “touchy” makes me feel all 3 points were inappropriate and hence the reaction.
lemsip Posted July 29, 2025 Posted July 29, 2025 (edited) They're just getting distracted by irrelevant issues and creating conflict and media stories when a mature guy could have tackled it firmly but discreetly. Now again all the focus is on a irrelevant issue when the TM should be focused on team selection which they got so wrong last time. Edited July 29, 2025 by lemsip Lord 1
