Ability-wise he is probably even better than Smith, Root, Kane, Kohli. When I saw him in 2017 BGT (that time he was also great in T20s), thought India got another ATG batter. Inexplicable waste of talent.

He is not #4 material in ODIs too. He made amends in CT 2024 (which was hosted by Pak in Dubai). He was instrumental in finishing couple of matches coming in at #6  - BD  ,  Aus  and NZ in the final. He should be given less time to think about his mental weaknesses.

He was dropped in the next series in SA for Dhawan. That to me was the turning point for him turning into a meek batsman. Handling a talent is very crucial

This guy got chances like nobody else , so scoring runs on flat pitches does not undo all the stinkers he has put up in last decade in all formats.

 

Jaiswal even after having so many failures still ended up with two hundreds still ended up with only 100 runs less than Rahul.

 

Jadeja running out of partners scored as many runs as him.

Think he has been good in recent years CWC final aside.  

 

His next challenge is to score big hundreds and try and score 200's in tests.

Overall it was his 2nd best season after 2018 in PBKS. His average was 54 and strike rate 150. His strike rate had been an issue in recent years.

Can't blame him alone for DC's failure.

Hell no. Kela will always be remember as a meek loser. His best ever MIGHT draw us a game but never win one. When pressure in on he shakes in his boots. One last person to get rid of this team. Jaddu scored almost as much as he did consistently with better avg. but he can also bowl.

He will stay for a while in the Test team whether he won over fans or not. Scoring over 500 runs as an opener in England is a big achievement and cannot be looked over just because he played a poor WC finals 2 years ago. KL Rahul if he maintains the current consistency for a year or 2 will really help India in Tests. No reason to replace him in this format. He should never play T20 for sure and he will not. ODI is still debatable and he might still be in the mix due to the CT 2025 performance.

He could have been in the ABD mould flamboyant and dependable accross formats but he chose to be meek

He should make it a mission to avg close to mid 40s in tests by the time he retires, will be a shame otherwise for the talent he possesses.

Nice, humble guys making a comeback, I'm in. One of the most heartwarming stories for me in recent times was Chakri's redemption, after he was unfairly scapegoated for 21 Dubai fiasco....even KL's clutchenss in CT stood out. Maybe I am a sucker for such stories.

I was listening to him talking to DK. He said he came early to play A games then when the whole team arrived, it hit him quite hard to not see Kohli, Rohit, Ashwin, Shami etc around.

When youngsters approached him on how the conditions are going to be in England, it further hit him that  he is the senior most guy now. 

 

Probably the maturity we saw in him was a result of this realisation.
