But seems like politics more than anything someone doesn’t want Iyer in the team. A guy under whose tenure our ICC Trophy draught ended and we have now back to back ICC Trophies and a near miss at a ODI WC. While Rohit has deservedly got the credit along with Dravid and GG, selectors must have done something right as well. Remember the criticism 5 spinners strategy received before CT. Proved to be spot on. His picks for the England tests also worked out well in the end. While he gets all the criticism for test losses, fair to praise him for the successes? rollingstoned 1
AKane Posted August 19, 2025 Posted August 19, 2025 Iyer should focus on the IPL. In fact anyone not in good graces with "Team mgt" should put plans for playing for national team on back burner and just excel and make money in IPL. That is the beauty of the IPL - one is not totally beholden to the cricketing establishment as in past days.

Jitesh is in the team there just because if they keep Panth/KL there may be pressure on sanju's position each-time. So to avoid all the noise what they have done is distributed Wk roles -- Test - Panth and back up Jurel (there will be no noise if jurel just sits out), In OdIs --KL and back is Panth (KL is always under pressure no matter who is on the bench), T20is --Sanju and Back-up is jitesh (they can have any no-name wk there) to keep sm noise away from comparing Panth and Sanju after each match. Iyer was out of picture from T20i formats because of his issues with short-ball this seems to be sorted out now. So here is the conspiracy theory --Iyer is not there because they donot want so many player breathing under Sky's/or who ever they think is next in succession (may be gill) neck lining for Captaincy role. They made axar the vc and you can clearly see during the matches panday is less involved in decision making as he was previously, think he is been told to stay away frm looking like part of leadership or be a silent leader. Sanju in the middle order is a disaster,he should either open or not play at all.

Do not think jitesh is the kind of batter that ppl think of, he has not come good against an intnl bowling line-up. Ind does not have a decent odi wk hence kl walks-in as wk batter. no 1 challenging his spot thats why adding players like gill who are not best suited for t20is creates other problems Not just that his inclusion closes the doors on Vaibhav, Arya kind of t20 specialist batters Edited August 19, 2025 by tapandrun

By playing minimum three allrounder to increase the batting depths till 8 Dube Pandya Axar place is already fix Dube compitition was with washi not with Iyer. Iyer only compition is with Rinku but Rinku is Better at 6,7 when comes to finishing the game. Still no place for Iyer in the T20 team . Lol. Dube barely bowls at any level. He just bowled that one game after the concussion sub game, as if to prove a point. Dube is a middle order hitter. Iyer and Rinku provide the same role. In theory, you can say he is an all rounder like Washi, but in reality, his role is a middle order spin hitter Lord 1

Jaiswal will probably play his first World tournament in 2031. I am cool with this snub, expected only. Anyway Jaiswal isn't in TM's plans for next T20 WC, not much time left for that. Inclusion of Gill is a blunder, because it messes with our firing top 4 of Samson, Abhishek, Tilak, SKY. Just hope Jaiswal gets chance in ODIs soon. Taking Rohit to the WC in RSA is a disaster waiting to happen. rollingstoned 1
Gollum Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 Though I won't watch a single ball of this tournament, this selection gives insights about our squad for T20 WC early next year. Shreyas not even in the reserves is injustice. India's best player on tacky surfaces, low bounce, spinning surfaces....and clutch af. Someone who has made huge strides in his game the last one year....was dropped but took it in the right spirit and put in the hard yards, got to reward that. And he has leadership qualities to boot. Shreyas can play anwhere from 3 to 7. Gill OTOH has to open or max at number 3....and Tilak will be sacrificed who has proved himself in this format again and again. Totally messes up the team composition.

Gollum Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 (edited) Gill with his mid 130s SR is an inferior version of present day Kohli in this format (prime Kohli a different beast altogether). Was hopelessly outclassed every time he played alongside Jaiswal or Abhishek. Making him VC is BS. Now he has to feature in the XI and that will * up our well settled top 4 of Samson, Abhishek, Tilak, SKY. None of these guys should make way for a 130 SR guy who can only milk spinners for 1s and 2s, that is against the philospophy of modern T20. Even in the CT in UAE in his best format, he struggled to get going, mid 70s SR and sitting duck against spin. Also failed in KOs as he always does, he doesn't have the clutchness of Iyer. Axar was VC and deserved that, key figure and automatic starter because of his clutchness, and balance. Making Gill automatic starter takes me back to 2014-16 when Rahane was our opener with his impactless 110 SR game, that selection cost us 2 WCs. Edited August 20, 2025 by Gollum

We are not performance oriented board at all like Aus and England, they'll never add someone who strikes less than 140 at present times just for pampering purpose, this whole affair acts enough to pamper these overrated guys Gill will surely lead us in wt20 where he may well drop Abhi,Samson or anyone else to add more secure options to hide himself just like his predecessors did,he will add Sudarshan who partners him at GT and stink this T20 side
Gollum Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 (edited) Yeh Dube ka kya scene chal raha hai? He can't be reilied upon to bowl even against Nepal, but is there as an AR back up for Hardik? Rinku has done nothing for the last 1.5 years. How do these guys make the squad while Shreyas can't even be in reserves? Edited August 20, 2025 by Gollum

Only silver lining is that he is the only poor, unmerited selection in the squad this time. Usually we have multiple duds like Jadeja, Chahal and Kohli (2024 World T20) in a single squad.
