Engraving of the national emblem on the renovation plaque of Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar has sparked a controversy as locals and political leaders maintain that having any figures or shapes at Muslim religious places was against the Islamic concept of monotheism.

Devotees who visited the revered shrine that houses the relic of the Prophet Mohammad slammed the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board for inscribing Ashoka Emblem on the inauguration stone inside the sacred place.

The shrine underwent renovation recently, and the reconstruction and redevelopment project of the shrine was inaugurated by Waqf Chairperson Darakshan Andrabi.

The inauguration plaque placed inside the shrine has the national emblem etched in the stone, drawing sharp criticism from various quarters.

Many devotees said it was "shameful" on the part of the Waqf Board to be "insensitive" to the religious sentiments of the Muslims in J&K.lg.php?bannerid=13375&campaignid=3705&zo

Ruling National Conference (NC) chief spokesperson and Zadibal MLA, Tanvir Sadiq, said placing a sculpted figure at the revered shrine goes against Islam, which forbids idol worship.

"I'm not a religious scholar but in In Islam, idol worship is strictly forbidden', the gravest of sins. The foundation of our faith is Tawheed.

"Placing a sculpted figure, at the revered Hazratbal Dargah goes against this very belief. Sacred spaces must reflect only the purity of Tawheed, nothing else," Sadiq said in a post on X.

On Friday, people broke the inauguration plaque with stones, removing the national emblem.

Why even go through the pain of renovating these jihadi hotbeds in Kashmir. First spend hundreds of crores of our tax and temple money to renovate mosques/dargahs, and then they destroy national emblem?

We have tried being patient with these radicalized Kashmiris, how much longer?

Hazratbal dargah has a notorious past. Supposedly has the hair of Prophet (that isn't shirk?). Some Kashmiri Muslim locals stole that relic during Nehru's time and there were riots all over the subcontinent. Massive genocide in East Pakistan and even large scale riots in Calcutta, Delhi, Madras in which thousands of kafirs fell to the Islamic sword.

Why renovate such a notorious place in the first place?

What Indian government gave them (Darakshan Andrabi heads JK Waqf board and is BJP national executive member)

vs what we get in return

Isn't this the place where JnK Police DSP Ayub Pandit was lynched to death.

Just checked, it was some place called Nowhatta. @Lone Wolf may know those places better because he is from JK, right?

They wrongly assumed he was Kashmiri Pandit and lynched him.

Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, all big leaders from valley have come out in support of the vandalism. They have problem with Indian flag, anthem, emblem....but want Indian taxpayers' money to fund their lavish lifestyles.

Funnily enough, the lion capital emblem is a Buddhist symbol, not Hindu...Ashoka was the biggest patron of Buddhism.

But such is their hate towards kafirs. Not one paisa should go to the valley, first learn to be grateful.

I am Not from JK though I have visited the area of Hazratbal in my travels to Kashmir..

Zero clue about Nowhatta.. I have never travelled to the interior portions of Srinagar (nor do advise anyone to go there)

Pandit converts are common in Kashmir.  Bhatt, Bakshi, Pandit are common converts.  Funny thing is Kashmiri Pandits use same surnames.  Even Sheikh Abdullah's father was a Pandit.

Salman Butt of Pakistan has his lineage from Kashmir too.  His ancestors were Pandit as well.

Spare a thought for the army, CRPF, BSF jawans protecting these savages from Pak origin/backed terrorists, only to see our national emblem get disrespected like this. On top of that these Omar Abdullahs and Muftis with Z+ security spout such hateful **** against the country, they don't deserve security of any sort funded by Indian taxpayers.

Should be made mandatory to have the emblem on every religious structure which has a govt contribution.

Kya hi kar lenge yeh.

Govt only takes, takes, takes from temple hundis, yet there won't be one temple in this country which has problem with a national symbol of any sort. In fact all temples will take pride in dedicating/channeling prayers for welfare of the nation, its bravehearts etc.

Isn’t it ironic that Saudi and the middle east penninsula from where Islam spread around the world by sheer violence are becoming more liberal - while in the entire subcontinent ( Pak, India, B’:desh ) they are becoming more intolerant and violent - the same thing they are doing in Western countries where they enter through asylum.
