rollingstoned Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 They won the t20 series so maybe they are improving. Toygers are producing fast bowlers for the first time in all formats. MMHS used to keep saying their domestic cricket is better than poyz lol, naturally it didn't go down well there. I think lot of second rate cricketers in India like Rohan Gavaskar also used to go and play in some Dhaka league.

NameGoesHere Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 As a former international consultant of some accomplishment, I have sent a dispatch to their excellencies President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister (interim) Muhammad Yunus, recommending that Bangladesh should best refocus on its natural strengths, which is making chaddis, particularly since as I grow older the side of my chaddis keeps increasing, and the strain on the fabric and stitching is most worrying. West Indies have to stay together, if they split up into many nations, they'll become associates in no time. They have to make, and to be fair they are making, decisions to cut costs dramatically. If there's a tour, host all matches in one island, even if it's Tests. Unless it's Big 3 touring, get rid of DRS from all Test cricket played at home. For white ball and Big 3 Test tours , use the cheapest versions of Hawkeye(4 camera system ) or switch to Virtual Eye which is, apparently, even cheaper. WI are already going down the minnow route. They recently lost a T20 series to Nepal and it's a matter of time they join associates. One of the reasons WI are struggling is that they don't get enough funding and support from their countries. Most of the nations don't spend money on WI cricket as they're not an individual country and these nations would rather spend money on something they own/manage themselves and is part of their national identity. Breaking WI into top 2-3 nations would help from that perspective coz the current state will eventually lead to demise of WI cricket.

I agree things are different now,but how far have we come in other sports and what kind of sucess we have in anything other than cricket and compare with other countries. We are still dependent on one odd sucess here and there plus guys like Neeraj was not winning due to system . IMO Bangladesh is okay, they just need some confidence and some results go their way. Will they become powerhouse in cricket no but they still would be team with fanatic fanbase and if they happen to win one odd tournament, that team would be just fine. tapandrun 1

In those 30 years India barely got any opportunity to play and that timeframe can't be equated with how things stand today. Look at the number of opportunities instead of the time. In those 30 years India would barely have played a handful of Test series and that too against likes of Eng and Aus, who were well established. OTOH B'desh has been backed continuously and has played non-stop over the last 30 years or so. They've also had opportunities to play weaker teams such as SL, Afg, associates etc. but nothing has changed for them. If India had received the same support and same number of matches/series in their first 30 years, they wouldn't have had to wait so long to become an established cricketing nation. Frustrated 1
bsriharsha Posted October 16, 2025 Posted October 16, 2025 Lanka got test status in the 80's and won the world cup in 1996. That's 16 years. Bangladesh got test status in 1999 and it's 2025 and there's absolutely been no improvement. For people saying that India got test status in the 30's and did nothing of note till the 70's. Cricket was different then, It was still a white man's game and India didn't have many teams to play against on a regular basis. There's more cricket being played now, more teams coming up and Bangladesh still contrive to lose 3-0 to an Afghanistan team. Ultimate_Game 1

Even war torn Afghans, civil war SL have tasted success in Olympics. On SM you often see Kanglus having this superiority complex wrt India because they eat more meat/beef and are supposedly descendants of the Turks and Arab conquerors. Their hockey players show so much aggression against our guys, including getting physical, only to end up losing by ten goals margin every time. Pakistan are has beens while Bangladesh are never weres. They don't have any superiority complex. Just pretending to hide their inferiority complex. Even their country was formed by us.
bsriharsha Posted October 16, 2025 Posted October 16, 2025 (edited) Till 1950. India played a grand total of 20 matches , That's 18 years of cricket from 1932 onwards. Didn't win any match. What constituted as India included territories of Bangladesh and Pakistan From 1951 to 1970 , India played 96 matches, won 15 , lost 38 and drew 43 From 1970 to 2000 , Played 214 matches , won 46 , lost 60 and drew 107. Coming to a W/L of 0.766 From 2000 to 2025 , Played 266 matches , won 124 , lost 77 and drew 65. Coming to a W/L of 1.6 The point is that the first 1950-1970 , India had to face tougher opposition and still managed a win/loss ratio of 0.36. What did Bangladesh do in their first 25 years. Played 154 matches, won 23, lost 112 and 19 draws with a win ratio of 0.205. This having weaker opposition like Zimbabwe , West Indies , Afghanistan. 9 of their 23 wins were against Zimbabwe, 5 against West Indies (one series where they had to field a weakened team after their first team pulled out) , 2/19 matches won against NZ , 2/15 matches won against Pakistan, 1 win in 28 matches with their great rival Lanka. Still haven't beaten us or SA. We don't play with them that often for stat padding like what Srilanka do anyway. The point is India's won more matches from 1950 onwards in a different era of cricket with less resources etc etc and Bangladesh has done nothing to prove that they deserve their test status (wins against some opposition in hopelessly doctored pitches at home not withstanding) Till 2000. India would atleast draw much more test matches than what they would lose. For Bangladesh , a draw is probably taken as a win though... Imagine not being good enough to even draw some games. singhvivek141 Posted October 17, 2025 Posted October 17, 2025 If they stop playing cricket as well..what they will do ? Some may pickup guns and become....something which starts and ends with letter "T". Give an opportunity to Bangladesh to play cricket in WC with Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, DRC Kongo, Mali, Rwanda etc....then see their performance.

kosingh Posted October 17, 2025 Posted October 17, 2025 From 1980s to around 2015 they gradually improved. But in the last 10 years they have regressed a lot. Back to the 1980s.

Back to the 1980s. 3 formats are just too much for teams with low talent pool. t20 cricket is different from test cricket, they were improving in Odis after 2007 wc but in 5/6 years T20 cricket started becoming popular and they struggled there. And trying to find balance between 3 format was difficult for a team which is just trying take the next big step. They had to play Odi players (batters) in all 3 formats. On other hand teams which are playing only 1-2 formats are getting better in white-ball. Afgn is playing only white-ball and have improved as they do not have to look out for test players. Even Npl t20i side looks like they can develop into a good side as they donot have to look out/develop test/odi players. Talent/player scouting and development efforts are concentrated in one direction.

Rather like some teams in the premier league who do end up getting relegated and then boast about winning the championship. And then the cycle continues.
The Hound Posted October 18, 2025 Posted October 18, 2025 They defeated WI in an ODI today. This is how the pitch looked.

Yes pitch looked like fresh clay and pieces come-off, ball spinning. Bd needs better pitches for home games to improve but think they are looking to improve their chances of qualification in wc with such pitches. Wi won the toss and elected to bowl and while chasing Wi was 50/0 Edited October 18, 2025 by tapandrun

What's the point of playing on these cow dung pitches? Yes, you win on these pitches as the result's dependent on toss - win the toss, bat first and the pitch disintegrates as the match goes along. That's the reason B'desh will never amount to anything outside of Mirpur coz in ICC tourneys they get to play on proper pitches and not these mud-fields.

WC qualifications are one of the main reason why Bd uses such wkts, if a team does not win many matches in away games it becomes more important to win home games. It become more important to win vs clsly ranked team because of point system. And if they win vs better ranked team it gives more points. So not to lose to closely ranked team as those are their competition and try to win vs higher ranked team to get more points, Sl is also doing same thing under jayasurya now. Think SL won vs Aus and Ind recently on some though wkts. Wi could have done the same but they do not play spin good themselves, but they have also won last few home series too. So the Idea here is with close ranked team who are not good vs spin play on spin track and beat them. And vs good team like Ind and Aus take chances on spinning wkt and make it more balanced competition as on normal to bit tricky surface bigger teams will push a bit and will win or have higher chances of winning. Bt on dodgy pitches Bd/SL also have chances vs better teams. Think when SL was playing in Bd, bd gave them green tops because sl spinner are better than bd spinners Edited October 19, 2025 by tapandrun
