Wonderful musical legend from padosi land.

Sample lyrics

'Tadap mere bekarar dil ki, kabhi to unpe asar karegi

Kabhi to wo bhi jalenge isme, Jo aag dil me dehek rahi hai'

TFS, I have liked Noor Jahan’s songs in the 50s. Have a border bias, but her VQ is as good as Shamshad Begum or Suraiyya. She is not as good as Lataji imo, unlike what Pakistanis  (typed p0rkis) think. Lyrics are very good in the ghazal , but as you point out , it is pretty elementary. Ghazals need a mood to connect to and appreciate, didn’t feel it in this song. Will post some of my fav in this thread. You can name it Ghazal thread or so

Exactly, these types of songs need a mood to connect, and when there's mood one feels like listening 5 times over..:cantstop:

Lata is better, and noor jahan is just perfect in her particular genre. Wonder expressions and khuli hui awaaz.

Changed thread title

@randomGuy I like Pankaj Udhas, Jagjit Singh and Talat Aziz.

Post some of Thos Urdu fav ghazal verses . I might need some help with strong Persian words

Here is one I came across recently.

Mujh se pehli si mohabbat mere mehboob na maang
Maine samjhaa tha ke tu hai to darakhshaan hai hayaat
Tera gham hai to gham-e-dehar ka jhagdaa kyaa hai
Teri surat se hai aalam mein bahaaron ko sabaat
Teri aankhon ke siwaa duniyaa mein rakhaa kya hai
Tu jo mil jaaye to taqdir nigoon ho jaaye
Yoon na tha maine faqat chaaha tha yoon ho jaaye
Aur bhi dukh hain zamaane mein mohabbat ke siwaa
Raahatein aur bhi hain vasl ki raahat ke siwaa
Anginat sadiyon ke taareeq bahemaanaa tilism
Resham-o-atlas-o-kamkhwaab mein bunvaaye hue
Ja-ba-ja bikte hue koochaa-o-baazaar mein jism
Khaak mein lithade hue, khoon mein nahlaaye hue
Jism nikle hue amraaz ke tannooron se
Peep behti hui galte hue naasooron se
Laut jaati hai udhar ko bhi nazar, kya keeje?
Ab bhi dilkash hai tera husn, magar kya keeje?
Aur bhi dukh hai zamaane mein muhabbat ke siwaa
Raahatein aur bhi hain vasl ki raahat ke siwaa
Mujh se pehli si muhabbat mere mehboob na maang

I must be really sick to read, interpret and like Faiz Ahmed Faiz. Qayamat ke din shayad :giggle:

I really liked the following lines:

Aur bhi dukh hain zamaane mein mohabbat ke siwaa,
Raahetein aur bhi hain vasl ki raahat ke siwaa’

Dil Dhoondta hain

@coffee_rules would be glad to translate some of the verses to the best of my ability.

One of my favourite verses is from a lesser known movie called Arth.

The song is called jhuki jhuki si nazar, by Kaifi Azmi.

“ teri ummeed pe thukra raha hu duniya ko

Tujhe bhi apne pe ye eitbar hai ki nahi”

Indeevar has not written better. Film songs before . although I prefer Khaike Ppan Banarans ke waala better  for better mood..

Jagne cheena mujhse

Mujhe jo bhi laga  pyaara

Sab jee tak ye mujhse

Main har dam hi haara

Tum haarke dil apna

Meri  geet amar kardo!!1
