Even today, After watching Sholay so many times, People can bear half an hour of Sholay on Screen without changing channel. Their was a 3D screening in Birmingham UK and it was Housefull. I managed to get the tickets too No other movie from past will get more than 10 mins on your tv, if you have watched them recently. One time audience saying all dialogues and counting the seconds during thr pauses. That's how internalized this movie is. Having said that, movie is generously inspired. mishra 1

goose Posted January 13 Posted January 13 the opening theme tune to sholay is pure art. you don't know it yet but every melody and beat is a nod to a character, theme or scene in the film. the closing credits is again a sped up upbeat version with whistling injecting a sense of happy ever after despite the tragic demise of jai. in india, get the music right and you are 75% of the way there. teh same is true of dhurandhar. mishra and ravishingravi 1 1

Footfalls depends on the main income of population of the time and movie success was measured by longevity of its run in those times. I would estimate even lesser footfalls for sholay but the impact of Sholay the movie making was phenomenal, especially in technical aspects of cinematography, action, choreography, and sound design. I think Baahubali on similar aspects had a comparable impact on current movie making. mishra 1

No wonder he’s called ChoRDB , the OG copycat and baap of Annu Maliks and Preethas. The whole opening theme music and ending credit music was “ inspired” from Enni Morricone scores in spaghetti western movies like once upon a time in the West. Agreed that the sound was unique for our audience at that time and still is.. for me the morricone theme music defined the whole genre we call westerns. to copy it or be inspired by it is like someone composing rap after the first rap artist. i will pay good money to hear a DJ put together music created by others if there is value added often bringing music that wouldnt have reached me otherwise.

South Indian composers, however, have always prioritised it like MM Keeravani, Mani Sharma, SS Thaman and Ravi Basrur. And don't get me started on Tamil composers like Anirudh, Harshavardhan Rameswaran(Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh, Animal, Spirit) Santosh Narayanan, AR Rahman, and Ilaiyaraaja, whose BGM tracks rack up hundreds of millions of YouTube views on their own. In some ways, the South Indian composers outshine even Hollywood composers, as they generally have to split their energies between chart topping songs and unforgettable BGM.

ravishingravi Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 (edited) I know this whole talk about Sriram Raghavan and this Aman ki Asha thing. But I can kind of steel man the opposite side here. It really is strange twist of fate. Bunch of our people were converted and now they think they have become something else. A film like this kind of even validates this at some level. The popularity of this film in Pakistan confirms that language, clothes, music is thicker than watter. It's a very odd situation. Edited January 14 by ravishingravi
ravishingravi Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 Saw Uri in entirety. Not sure why I wasn't into it before. Still you can see that Aditya was finding his feet. It's a good film except Yami character which was just not in sync with the story.

ravishingravi Posted January 15 Author Posted January 15 Can't imagine any filmmaker in a better position than Aditya is in now. First one massive hit and creating a buzz everywhere. About to be released in Netflix. I see even tom morning shows full. And in Mar second installment comes. He has feedback from audience and his trusted staff on what's not working well. Can edit the second part easily second guessing the audience anticipation. In fact. If anything I hope he doesn't over think part 2 in the edit. It's smart that he hasn't exposed himself to the media. It's one of those rare sweet spots that one hits in career.
ravishingravi Posted January 25 Author Posted January 25 Saw it third time, keeping some gap. It's one of our greats for sure. I think why it is so great is because of the world building. Only a writer director can build the world and the characters in it with so much conviction. Zeitgeist and author's voice comes together and what comes together is something in consciousness but yet not pastiche. And that's the best part about the film. It's a known genre but very hard to see clear influences. Maybe Nolan was the only one I could think of. After 3rd viewing I am aligned to RGB views. The action is not realistic as much as expression of the character. Action tells you more about who the characters are. Lord 1
