I had a Brasilian colleague/friend in 90's and I mentioned to him that although limited in athleticism and skill, I liked the Mexican team for their commitment. He said with disgust - "They have a sh!t team."  After the 7-1 in Belo, I wanted to ask him politely if the "sh!t team" would have conceded 4 in 6 minutes AND would the whole country have cried as much. The crying was more disgusting than even the result or play. Unfortunately I had lost contact with him.

 

Brasil were as obnoxious about soccer before 7-1 as the West Indians were before say 2005. Both have learnt a lesson.

Think everyone expected Germany to win because of their form and Thiago silva getting a second yellow in QF and getting suspended. David Luiz putting the worst defending performance in a WC KO just enhanced Germany's goals lol

How does match allotment work ? Doesn’t make sense TBH .. namo gettin 2 super 8 games does t make sense .. ppl don’t show up .. Chennai gets 1 super 8 .. Chennai filled 75 % for a USA vs NED game ..  outfield looks much better as well newly laid .. Mumbai does good job of filling stadiums .. Hyderabad would do the same .. the affordability is just much higher in these places than namo .. doesn’t make sense purely from game economics and ticket sales

Losing group match should have bigger consequence.

Ind, Pak, Eng, WI, NZ, SA are all through to the super 8s.
The only group still to be sorted is Aus-SL-ZIM group.

Better format would be to have 5 groups of four teams and top 2 going through to the super 10.

 

That way we can have lesser minnow matches and more crunch games in the super 10.

Even though it is not round robin format, there should be system like IPL where team winning most games gets some advantage.

 

May be points from group stage should carry forward.

2 main things which's making this WT20 not that great...

 

1. The format is useless. Absolutely no impact of a loss. You drop a match and nothing happens unlike the football WC where a loss in group stage or even a draw against unfancied opponents is like a death knell. Aus losing to Zim would've ended their footie WC, and NZ losing to SA would've put them on the brink. But here it doesn't really matter that much.

 

2. Venue of the final - Modi stadium - is a "win the toss, win the match" venue just like the 2021 "Dewbai" debacle. Batting becomes so much easier under lights later in the night that the team batting first starts with a huge disadvantage and has to hope that they play out of their skins and the side batting second have a bad day. In the final when the team are evenly matched, it's gonna be a miracle for team batting first win. It'll be a repeat of 2023 ODI WC final with whoever winning the toss and batting 2nd, winning the cup.

Eng aren't through. Italy can still beat them and wi boy they could lose their next two games

Dude this is a country where a state with zero Olympic participants gets 50 times the sports budget of sporting powerhouse states like Punjab, Haryana. Koi logic nahi milega.

USA, on the other hand, won 2 World Cup games. Impressive.
