As a test cricket fan what should we do for becoming no 1 test team?

We should select team based on Ranji,Irani and not on IPL.

 

Sarfaraz should play in the middle order .

 

Should try young players for every spot.

Fast bowlers should be preferred over medium pacers ie Ashok Sharma.

Start by picking red ball speiclaists. Picking Sai (FC avg 40) over Sarfaraz is not the way to go about it.

 

Also our spin stocks are terrible, go back to 2010s style pitches and hope to outbat the opponents. There will be more draws but that is ok.

Do they conduct trials for test selection? You need a set up where they get exposed to variety of conditinos like pace, bounce, turn and assess how they react. Right now IPL is their testing ground.

Don't think they have ever done that.

Start by winning at home first and Subcontinent.

 

Test team will take time to rebuild.  Find some decent Spinners for a change.  Sacrifice batting depth if we have to and don't look for bit and pieces all rounders.

Extend the duleep trophy and make it the premier domestic tournament. 6 teams playing each other twice home and away in test match venues and on tv. Ranji should be a feeder tournament being played alongside 

 

A proper A team structure playing home and away and only players who have done well in both of these play test cricket

Incentivize red-ball cricket with more lucrative contracts and match fees for domestic tourneys and tests. Prestige and national pride only go so far. At some point, players will see the need to maximize earnings in the short time-period of a sporting career.   

 

In other words, it should become a viable income alternative to franchise T20 cricket.

Ranji Trophy is supposed to be that trial, Then SENA A tours

Bits and pieces players will not cut it... They may come off once in a blue moon, but cannot get that consistency

Lots of things to do but we can start with moving on from a coach who has such reactionary mindset

Don't focus too much on Test cricket. Focus on winning the 50 over World Cup.
