India 2027 World Cup core squad discussion

South Africa can have the most batting friendly surfaces on the planet when they decide to.

What is our core squad of 15 likely to be ?

I really hope we develop a top 8, that can ensure the team post an average score between 330-350.

I still hate the idea of having shubham gill as captain. But assuming this cannot change - I really hope suryavanshi, Samson Ishan kishan are in the squad of 15. Don’t want Pant there for sure.

Get a feeling sa will make bowler friendly surfaces to keep india in check.

Lot of chatter than indian flat surfaces won them the t20 wc. SA groundsman may not follow icc diktat

No matter how batting friendly, chasing above 330 odd is rare in South African history.

An in places like Paarl, 300 is more than enough.

In the last India vs South Africa ODI series in SA they prepared bowling pitches but India trashed them  That was our second string squad  but our oldies and Gill need a flat road. If there is anything on the pitch they will struggle

SA T20 pitches aren't different either. India scored 283 last time they played a series there. The ODI pitches had something in them for the bowlers and SA were beaten badly in the series. No team in the world have batting to combat bowling surfaces, not even the hosts. When you look at the SA team, their batters are hitters as well. England got bowled out for a 100 against India in 2022 when the pitch had something in it for the bowlers. I feel may be NZ team might be suited to play on such surfaces but rest of the world cannot. I feel the pitches in SA will be fair with bounce but will be good to bat on. Don't think the ball is going to seam too much because such pitches can be a lottery with toss playing a crucial part. India will do reasonably well as our bowling will be good enough to take advantage of such pitches as well.

That's where Sai played so well. Was very impressed by him the way he handled those conditions.

The sa vs ind Odi series 2023/24 <-- Should be taken with bags of salt. It was a series where both Ind and Sa sent their B or experimental side.

It was nothing more that a A tour., Here is the list of SA bowlers game by game only notable pacer is burger who is not even regular in sa side .

And if Ind is taking result of this series v.seriously then Avesh was 2nd heights wkt taker in that series

Highest run getter was Zorzi with 220 runs and Sai was second with 127 runs.

This was SA bowling line up:::

game 3:

  • Nandre Burger
  • Wiaan Mulder
  • Keshav Maharaj
  • Tabraiz Shamsi
  • Andile Phehlukwayo
Game2 :

  • Nandre Burger
  • Lizaad Williams
  • Beuran Hendricks
  • Wiaan Mulder
  • Keshav Maharaj
  • Aiden Markram
Gsme 1:

  • Nandre Burger
  • Wiaan Mulder
  • Keshav Maharaj
  • Tabraiz Shamsi
  • Andile Phehlukwayo

As for Odi wc the pitches will be batter friendly, it has been in SA for along time now in white-ball. Avg 1st inning total in lst 3-4 yrs is nearly 290 in SA.
Ind lacks both pace bowlers and batting line-up for the upcoming Odi wc.

There is not just one but multiple issue with Ind Odi side and its preparation for the upcoming Odi wc.
-- Aging core of the batting line-up, <-- Rohit is biggest concern
--Do nt have 4/5 Fast bowlers
--All Rh batting line-up
--Lack of fire power in the batting line-up

I would back Sooryavanshi to play the Rohit role. The guy is a freak!

Gambhir may do 'jayasuriya of 1996' on sooryavanshi and may push for his selection. Selectors may use this as an excuse to put preassure on rohit as well.

Hope he does that as our ODI team is jaded and desperately needs an injection of youth

No They can't. ICC makes the pitches. Besides it is a financial disaster making pitches which are too spicy.

I am not expecting many radical changes in the ODI squad

Rohit, Gill, Kohli, Iyer/Tilak, KL (wk), Pandya, Jadeja, Washy, Arshdeep, Siraj, Bumrah.

I am pretty sure 9/11 players will be from the above team

Remaining will be between Kuldeep, Axar, Shivam/Reddy and maybe Sanju/Kishan as backup keeper

Concerns

1. Age of Kohli & Rohit

2. Mental limitations of KL

3. Physical limitations of Pandya

4. No pace bowling option apart from Siraj, Bumrah, Arsh

If no Tilak, then we will again have a righty dominated team till no 6...dont think Jadeja experiment up the order will be used often. GG loves to pack the team with allrounders who can bat deep.

Keeping useless guys like Sai and Sundar out of the team should be first priority. There is no upside in either of them. It was moronic to select guy like Sai to test team in the first place. He proved he cannot bat against pace nor he can bat against spin in tests.

Get Vaibhav and Tilak into the squad.

Karthik Tyagi should be in contention.

Let the poor chaps like him Ashok Sharma and all go to Australia or SA.

They have a better future there.

India will represent the malnourished losers who will bowl at 130k

Expect the same top 6 as the WC'23

Rohit, Gill, Kohli, Shreyas, KL, Hardik.

Don't see anything changing.

Would like to see Sooryavanshi, Sai, Jaiswal at least tried out in interim ODI tours
