Captaincy in IPL is overrated unless you are Dhoni- Rohit type of proven leader at a higher level. Even Patidar has 2 IPLs FFS.

 

having said that Iyer won IPL with KKR and led usually chindi teams like DC and Punjab to finals so maybe something there.

 

however as a batsman there are better options.

Iyer isn't a T20 batsman.  Nor does he have any credentials as captain.   SKY is a leg sided HACK but atleast was a decent kaptaan.

Deserves the captaincy and his spot in the team. It was between him and Patidar but Iyer has been more consistent and done it longer.

IPL needs to be taken seriously and if we had taken it seriously we wouldn't have seen the travesty of seeing Kohli captain instead of Rohit. It's no fluke Dhoni and Rohit are the most successful IPL captains and Kohli sucked balls. We saw the same in intls. We saw how CSK performed translated to Dhoni's India and Rohit's philosophy at MI with Team India. Similarly we saw Kohli make India RCB of world cricket with a top heavy team with no depth.

 

Iyer has taken 3 poor teams and changed their fortunes. He has shown himself to be a great leader and someone who can build a team and lead from the front. Turning the fortunes of KKR, DC and PBKS wasn't an easy thing and we've already seen the teams implode once Iyer moved on. Patidar would be the 2nd best option but between the two Iyer is ahead. This is one of the rare times Indian selectors did something right. But I would've understood if Patidar had been given the role ahead of Iyer. I think Iyer pipped Patidar coz of Iyer's clutch performances in ODIs after his comeback and he was the key in us winning the CT.

He has no t20i creds and yet parachuted as the captain, it does not work in ind system. player 1st has to do something at itnl level then only they can be Ind captain.

 

There is still some gap between IPL and Intnls.

 

 

There is a huge impact of who is captain in IPl, it not overrated it has to be carefully selected. A lot of top national and intnl players are plying in the team and you make a bad captain and team falls apart be it on the ground or out side. There should be a level of acceptance of the captain in IPL set-up --Lsg , Kkr, even Dc,CSk are example of bad captaincy choices.

 

IPl franchises can ask other player to really around a newer player as captain but can not say that this player is not suited for t20s but he the captain and play around him. It does not work in ipl as there are many intnl stars in the side as well.

 

Lsg had 3 wc captains they chose Rishab who is not suited to t20s and captaincy job, KKR CSK chose players who are not ideal for current IPL batting and hence had to pay with bad batting line-ups to accomodate their captains

No he doesnt, to be in the team first you need to deserve your place in front of other players, captaincy doesnt matter at all in international t20. He is online hype built on IPL

 

And we dont need specialist captain to build any team from scratch as we have enough talent, captaincy wont do anything for us. We won with Sky and he wasnt a great captain. Make anyone captain and we will win, as long as we dont self sabotage with such dumb moves

One year ago, i would have agreed over his selection. Now we have invited a problem. They just don't learn. Suryavanshi for Sky was straight swap. Make any of Sanju/Ishan- skipper. Eventually Suryavanshi will break the doors and will make him indispensable. Just when both those inconsistent performers had started performing, we created a problem where one of them will have to sit out.

No it was not. Samson captain and Vaibhav in and we would be winning

His onfield captaincy is poor. Under use of Chahal in crtiical phases, lack of regular use of Brar. SKY is a lot more pratical with his gut feeling. SKY is closer to MSD about taking decisions based on the flow of the game.  Shreyas doesn't fall under this category. I don't say others are much better.  Samson is not terrible.  Gill is also not terrible.  Kishan is also not terrible.

Timing is everything. When he was at his peak last year, they ignored him, but put him in the queue. According to queue system, he was next when SKY was out.

You cannot make a guy who is not even the squad captain without him proving he is worth to be player first.

 

That too after the emergence of player like Vaibhav.

Sanju scored 2 tons in SA. Its Kishan who has done nothing outside Asia.

SKY is a miracle captain . Whatever he touched gold. 

 

India lost hardik for asia cup final. Opened with Dube and off color Bumrah.  India was 20/3 still won.  Then srilanka 19th and 20th ove.r Many things just happened for him.  With Iyer it is the opposite.
