It’s exaggerated. Especially when regular Indians living in foreign countries, our business people have done well in these foreign environments. So it isn’t any cultural issue.

Indians maybe loud and ignorant at times. But definitely not boorish or badly behaved as a whole. That is a lazy generalization.

 

In any case, I know of a case where American school kids were taken by their private school, no less, to Auschwitz and many of them were clicking selfies with all kinds of teeny hand gestures near what were the gas chambers and the selection spots or outside the barracks that housed slave labour.

 

Bad behaviour is a function of being in a large group. And is universal. Smaller groups tend to be better behaved.

We can expect such behave from teenagers but not grown ass adults There is no need to be defensive about this issue, Indians have this stereotype attached them lastly because of their own making.

Yeah. I've seen this even in domestic flights. Atleast 10 people requiring wheelchair assistance on a random domestic flight. There will be cases when people genuinely need wheelchair assistance but i've also seen people in the 60's getting wheelchair assistance even if they are otherwise fit to walk.

It was in the days of no cell phone... These days indoor navigation can also work to guide parents in their local language

Easiest thing to do in that case for Indian airports atleast is to ferry aged persons with ev vehicles after the check-in to their departure gate. 

 

In Hyderabad airport where most of the gates have aerobridges, the senior citizens can then walk slowly to the aircraft. No need for wheelchair. People who genuinely need wheelchairs can then pay for those privileges at a higher price point.

And also anyone who needs a wheelchair should need to get a proper medical certificate from a verified hospital before being allowed to ask for one. 

 

If people can have enough money to book flight tickets , they can go and pay some money to get that certificate.

It's an extension of the stupid senior citizen rule in Indian trains where you had senior citizens getting 50% discount. 

 

As a result , most of the train tickets right now are booked by senior citizens. They could get 2AC or 1AC at half the price.

Nothing against senior citizens , but my parents never take advantage of this rule. My mom and dad regularly shuttle between US and India and I've never once seen my dad ask for a wheelchair access. Even when my mom's health isn't that good right now.

And there have been cases where a genuine wheelchair person died because enough wheelchairs weren't available because the freeloaders took the bulk.

Most times seniors ask for a wheelchair because they are extremely nervous about getting lost in large airports.  Understandable. 

 

A simple solution would be for authorities to provide some sort of intermediate level escort service - a credentialed airport employee securely walking you through security to the gate. And gate to gate for transit passengers .

 

In some airports lie Heathrow you can buy this service with an authorized private agency but if the airport provides it like they do wheelchair service, many people would avail it and leave the wheelchairs for real need.

Airlines don’t charge for the wheelchair convenience, and our guys think it’s a free service so why walk and even able-bodied people start using wheelchairs. The only solution is to charge money and people will automatically start walking. Have an age limit like 65+ otherwise pay some money. This is a problem of civic sons and civic responsibilities that we lack. Sad state of india.
