Why is Dhruv Jurel playing as a pure batsman in our test team?

Surprise surprise, this great batting talent again is out for single digit but according to some geniuses including Gambhir he should be playing ahead of Sarfraz.

 

How many more matches do we need to see this guy flop over and over again.He neither can attack nor defend.

 

11 tests overall he has crossed 50 three times.He is some generational batting talent. He has played bottom feeding teams for majority of his career.

I have been impressed by technique and temperament since the time I saw him against England at home and then in A tour in Australia.

Even Rahul Dravid rates him highly to get Royals break the bank for him, must have seen something.

 

Hopefully a regular in the XI now and continues to get runs at that position.

Jurel has a very solid technique against both pace and spin. Looks reassuring. 

 

And he seems equally adept at pulling / hooking and driving the ball while facing pacers.

 

Plus good defense. 

 

Can hit big 6s in tests.

 

Nothing to dislike. 

 

Now that he is averaging 40+ in test cricket, with 2 tons, hopefully he will have the confidence to perform regularly.

A 24-25 year old with this kinda technique and temperament doesn't comes often in Indian cricket.

Probably since Kela most technically gifted right hand batter.

Key player in NZ for us when Kookaburra gets old.  Knows how to bat with the tail.

But this is not such an elite bowling attack. Pitches don't really have threatening bounce. Roston chase made 194, Justin greaves 180, Ameer jango 233, Mushfiqur early made 163 at Galle. Alex carey 156.  Their bowling just falls apart after 30 overs or so.

You can only make do what's in front of you Justin Greaves was superb in NZ.  Helped them draw a test in NZ 

 

Has been a dream for Indian batters to bat that long in NZ

Chase and Greaves knocks were in the West Indies.  When did SL last have an elite attack?

When they had herath and co. Afte rthat they did okay in patches like they did in SA where even average seamers can look good when they hit the spot.

Yea.. That is why said Gill and Jaiswal totally botched in this series. Both missed a double 100. Padikkal cashed in. Sai's injury was a blessing in disguise for him.

Herath. That's it. There was no other bowler who was particularly good. 

 

These SL seamers are better than they have had in ages.

Have you looked at the fitness of their bowlers/ They are all fat. Sure they have heart. But they lose it as the match goes on and on. ONly Asitha is half decent. Rest are just okay.

Justin Greaves scored 202 not out in Hagley Oval Christchurch as well.

Yeah their batting has looked better recently. Roach needs to retire though.

The fact that he's a good keeper has nothing to do with him being a good batsmen. Both aren't exclusive of the other.

Yeah, also tells you the importance of having someone who can bat down the order in NZ when Kookaburra gets old and their bowlers get tired.

You obviously needs shots as well.  Strong players of cut and pull do well in NZ especially in Hagley which is quick and bouncy at times

His talent was never in doubt.

Ofc NZ series awaits where every modern Indian batter had failed in 2020.
