They are pseudo swing bowlers who will do zilch with anything other than SGs(even that is rare,when it matters)

 

 

Planning has to start from State and Zonal Levels.

 

Younger 140 k+ pacers are not getting to play FC and List A cricket for their States and Zones with any kind of regularity till they are 27+.

 

Which is why the fit and skilled pool of 140 k+ quicks is far less than the total pool.

 

They have wasted Tyagi, Kuldeep Sen, Mavi, Umran, Nagarkoti etc. by not giving them enough chances at state / zonal levels or dropping them prematurely from Team India. Even Prasidh's development was slowed down early on when Vinay, Mithun, Arvind kept playing for Karnataka.

 

Now Eden Tom is getting the same treatment. Not picked for South Zone in red ball cricket. Same applies to Onkar Tarmale for West Zone.

 

Harshit has not played any red ball matches after December 2024. And has regressed.

Absolutely.

 

Get all the U25  140 k+ pacers to play FC and List A regularly.

 

Tarmale, Devendran, Eden, Mayank, Tyagi, Ashok when fit must play FC and List A regularly.

 

Otherwise they will never develop.

What's happening to Abbas and Khurram is what will happen to Aquib Nabi if he plays.  

 

For all those supporting Nabi selection , it's a good reminder you need a certain minimum average pace to be effective on all pitches.

I don't think Harshit wants to play much test cricket looking at his poor fitness.  He seems content with limited overs cricket

One thing I noticed was, whenever any red ball cricket was going on, Harshit was in the LOI squad and often on the bench. This was poor planning by the selectors and his intention was not even tested.

 

One good thing is .... now Harshit is under a rigorous weight loss program at the CoE.

Abbas was as metronomically accurate as always but at 123.5 kph average pace , he simply couldn't threaten since the pitch had flattened out.

133 kph average speed works only if he is a tall bounce bowler with pinpoint accuracy. Like McGrath, Walsh, Pollock etc.

 

Medium height pacers or tall pacers with normal bounce or pacers with standard accuracy need atleast 137 kph / 136 kph average speed.

1 )   It is this approach which is a big impediment in establishing quick pacers, wrist spinners and stroke players ( who may take a bit more time to reach maturity )  In the social media age everyone wants quick results from match 1. Otherwise troll them mercilessly. 

 

2 )   Not every quick pacer will do well. It will never happen. If 2 to 3 out of 5 pacers, who are tried, establish themselves, it is a fair rate.  Which is why it is important to give chances to every quick pacer the moment he performs for a decent length of time in any format.

 

 

 

 

We don't play that many tests to begin with like England does. Every testing has to be done in LOIs. I think we are over-rating guys like Prasdham. Did you see how Tongue bowls?  or Will O rourke bowls? They are not 30 year olds. Ishant made debut at the age of 19.  Prasdham is already 30.  PRasdham's best ICC ranking is 55. If you give him 5 years to develop he will be 35. We will have an elite old trundler. Kartik Tyagi, Harshit Rana kind of bowlers are the ones you invest in.

As Joffra showed.. first 4 balls seam up setup deliveries, then wicket delivery was scrambled seam.. Technically it is 90 degree grip change.  Not random bolding of the ball.  Batsmen won't know  which way the ball would seam. You gotta mix them perfectly.
