So it won't help grow or diminish. Test crickets are not hosted by many countries outside the top 3 due to financial reasons. NOthing else. So may be Dravid is talking from that angle. Bringing crowd to the stadium. Nobody bothers pay attention to A games. But when Vaibhav landed in SL A there was a large crowd waiting just to see him. That expectation was there in ENgland, Ireland as well. May be hs it alking from that angle. Rajasthan Royals matches had higher viewership due to him. He has become a box office player. This argument is not universal. It is applicable only for special talents like Vaibhav.
Suhaan Posted August 22 Posted August 22 A nakli all format clown ,we have had enough of that phisher No all format clownery anymore Only the GOAT Jass has been the all format star this decade from India

T20 batting style messes-up with test bat swing and batting style. Batting in t20s is about being proactive, pre-empting the bowlers. Test batting is about being reactive and defensive <-- these are 2 v.diff things in any activity.
BacktoCricaddict Posted August 22 Posted August 22 An alternative question is: why should test cricket grow? Things change all the time and if t20 cricket attracts more interest, and is easier to market, so be it. Who has time to watch 5 days 10-4? Even I as a rabid test fan can only watch highlights.

Dravid is a test player so he would be inclined to see Test cricket gain its lost charm. Grow is probably the wrong term, what he probably means is arrest the slide of test cricket.
zen Posted August 22 Posted August 22 India test cricket has lost some of its charm with the retirement of the Great Pujara

Good question, perhaps because Tests are the primary criteria for defining the greatness of a player. Sustainable performance on the ground for 5 days, that tests you skills across conditions. Its like in a game of balance which will continue to shift throughout 5 days and you have to be really alert all those days to ensure you dont slip when it all mattered. Unlike a T20 where a quick fire 25 off 10 can change the game...in Tests even a 25 off 10 or 25 off 200, both can cause a positive impact on your team. I understand T20 is flavour of the day coz it is quick and it blurs the line of quality amongst teams. A weak team can defeat a strong team just by a freakish spell or inns. You canr do that in Tests....freakish spells wont work there. express bowling 1
Nikola Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Why do we even need all format players? There is too much talent in india, given amount of injuries players have max they should be playing is 2 format to share workload (especially for pace bowlers) Suhaan, tapandrun, rtmohanlal and 1 other 1 3
BCCISelector Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Dravid used the same logic and gave a Test cap to SKY when Sarfaraz was piling on first-class runs. Sooryavanshi's Test selection should be based purely on his red-ball credentials. No need to artificially manufacture all-format players. singhvivek141 and tapandrun 2

Most of the under-19 stars did play tests. It is another thing they did well or not. Prithvi shaw did play tests too. Agarwal another under-19 guy played test. Irfan pathan without any experienced was picked straight from under-19. Under-19 was the selection methodology before IPL. Dhawan, Rohit, Kohli, Rahul, Gill, Jaiswal are all under-19 stars.
Lord Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Test cricket is fine. It doesn't need any specific player. Vaibhav is a match winner and box office in T20s, No need to dilute that. Tests require completely different approach
putrevus Posted August 22 Posted August 22 (edited) Why are people deciding what is good for Vaibhav.Let him decide that, if he willing to play all three formats, more power to him.He is young and still growing, let him enjoy the game and grow with it. Did he say he is not going to be good in test cricket. Dravid is right in hoping guys like Vaibhav play test cricket as he is box office and he will attract not just crowds but also encourage other young players. Edited August 22 by putrevus
