jf1gp_1 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 the only team thats winning this world cup is India
Deleted_User_1 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I agree with Ravi. This team does not look good to go through. Depending on who they see in Qtrs, this team will either go out in the qtrs or semis. Too bad for SRT then!
Manny_Pacquiao Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 True India will need to beat anyone and everyone to win the tourney but don't tell me it doesn't matter to players and team management whom they play. Any team will try to get a weaker opponent in the knockouts and that's why everyone tries to top the group - so that they could play weaker team from the other group. i SERIOUSLY doubt that teams actualy PLAN to play a specific team in the quarters. first of all, u can't PLAN for that. nobody can predict whats gonna happen in other games. thats never in your control. New zealand could top the group by beating SL, pakistan could top the group by beating australia. all of a sudden south africa has a tricky QF against SL. wow, great plan. no team is dumb enuff to think this way. secondly, even if u do happen to get a nice QF, u will play a top team sooner or later. if u wanna win the world cup, u have to beat top teams. doesnt matter when, in the QFs, SFs whenever, u gotta play them at some stage. how does it help india or any other team to top the group and play an easy QF when they have australia waiting for them in the semis? it doesn't. this is how FANS think. the moronic indian fair weather bandwagon jumping gloryhunting fans are desperate to see their team reach the semis so they can return to the internetz and start debates over how satisfied they feel that their team didnt get knocked out early. LOL. welcome to the nonsensical world of internet forums :haha: i dont think that any cricketer would think this way. god help them if they do. if they wanna top the group, its because they want some confidence behind them, and the memories of having played good cricket in their minds, before going into a QF. they wouldnt do that because they think they MIGHT play a weaker team
Texan Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I think at best, they will reach the semis. That would be consistent with what previous Indian teams have achieved in the World Cup on the sub continent. If India beat WI and win the quarters though, I bet more than half the people who are pessimistic about India's chances on this forum will become optimistic! I will still stick to my best case scenario for India.
vvvslaxman Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 If i have this dude.. i would back India 100% . Watch him at 2:48 :cantstop: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzBDoxdUS1A]YouTube - Shane Warne 12/128 Vs South Africa 1994[/ame]
Little_Master Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 IND vs SL - Finals :two_thumbs_up: May the best team win:nervous:
King Posted March 17, 2011 Author Posted March 17, 2011 eveyrthing u say applies to other teams as well, not just india. every other team has had its ups and downs, they all have weaknesses. other teams will need to make just as big a 'mighty effort' as india will to win the world cup. i really dont see the point of all these inane posts that regularly fill this forum. the team that wins the world cup is gonna be the team that plays the best cricket in those 3 knockouts. thats it. its all about confidence and belief. whichever team has these two things, can go on a roll and win the cup. thats why its absolutely CRUCIAL that india gets a bit of confidence going before the QFs by playing some good cricket against west indies. india hasnt played good cricket so far, at least not during 100 overs of a game. everything else, about bowling, batting, team composition, captaincy blah blah blah doesnt mean ****. Every team??? Are you saying all other teams are upbeat about their respective teams at all times? Not all the teams are ranked no.1 in test matches and no.2 in ODIs. Secondly not all the teams are playing at home. In a way you are saying Bangladesh/West Indies/New Zealand has as good a chance as India to win the world cup... which is quite right logically but we know it will take miracles for Bangladesh/West Indies/New Zealand to win it but not so much for India. BTW what sounds innane to you are thought provocative to others. You don't like reading something or participating, just hit the back button or turn on "Ignore" :two_thumbs_up: It is rather better people take the result in their stride than get absolutely worked up about a game of cricket and lose it all if the team doesn't go through all the way. Then the post mortem commences and as usual life carries on. Facing reality doesn't mean we are negative. Some of us are positive about the future but maybe not so much the immediate future.
maniac Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 India better win or else 50 Over cricket will die...... The way we fought till the very end against both Eng and SA in pressure situations has given me the hope. It's another story that our sorry bowlers (Nehra) lost us the game against SA.

India wouldn't need to PREDICT anything... as I mentioned Ind-WI game is the last group game and both the teams would know what the quarter final lineup will be depending on the result. 2. One of the reasons you want to win all the games and top your group is to get teams who are weaker and thus ranked lower in the other group. In fact this is universally true for all sports especially for soccer where you would go all out to top your group so that you play Switzerland in Rd 2 instead of say Brazil. Even though to win the world cup you will have to beat the stronger teams eventually you will try to take the easier route and hope to play weaker teams before coming up against the stronger teams later in the tourney. I repeat if Ind and WI know that the winner takes on NZ and loser Aussies in quarters, there will be an extra edge as nobody would like to take on Aussies so early in the knockout round. And as for "moronic indian fair weather bandwagon jumping gloryhunting fans" it's the real die-hard fans who actually know about various scenarios and what the quarter final lineup might be. The "bandwagon" fans will not have a clue and couldn't care less who plays whom as long as there's an India game. Btw, most of the fans on ICF are the real fans. Nobody invests so much time and effort just so that they could "return to the internetz and start debates over how satisfied they feel". You will see these kind of folks in case India does well and then come out of the wood-work. Most of the fans out here have backed India through thick and thin and will continue doing so no matter what happens in the world cup.
The Outsider Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Speaking for myself, the team has never exuded confidence in me in tournaments. I would still back them to win 9/10 bilateral series. But the dynamics of a tournament are very different, specially this one which involves 3 KO matches. I just can't see how we will win them. Whichever team does would at some point need awesome performances from the second rung players. When I look at the Indian team I see a huge gulf between our first and second rung. Other teams do not have the quality of our first rung, but their second rung is better than ours. Over a 5 match series the top rung will do enough to win, but in a 3 match KO guys like Nehra would need to pull world class performances at some point. Possible, but not probable.
maniac Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 The only reason this team gives me confidence is because even with an ordinary bowling attack, they seem to absorb pressure really well. Pak,SA,Eng,WI are all poor under pressure. The Aussies have not been tested in this tournament. SL,NZL don't have big match temperaments. They will do well when things are going there way but not sure if they can raise their game when it matters.Indian team in recent look like they believe they can win from any situation thanks to some close games we have won from hopeless situations in recent times. Unless some freak individual brilliance from any opposition players eg;Steyn or Strauss I see India going all the way. Unless a freak individual brillia

Yup, India these days is fast becoming SA of old... great in series and over a stretch of games but in a one-off game unpredictable.
Clarke Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 There's two factors that should help the most pessimistic of our fans. Firstly, no team has been outstanding so far. Everyone has had their share of off days. Secondly, whatever team we face, we control the nature of the pitch as long as mother nature does not intervene. So yeah, it hasn't been a bed of roses but its not all thorns either.

Even the Q/F and S/F are scheduled to be played on flat or bouncy pitches and not a turner.

"we" dont control the pitch, the ICC does.If we controlled the pitch then we would have played on turners against the poms and saffers.I expect we will be playing on a patta again in the QFs.

vvvslaxman Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 You need a bit of magic on the field. Inspite of immense batting might we possess we never won a cup because of our batting. It was mostly bowling and fielding magic that has won matches. Even in T20 2007, we had KKD pulling off an absolute blinder, Rohit Sharma making a stunning run out then Uthappa making another stunning run out in the final. Then RP singh's unplayable deliveries to several batsmen in the world cup. When we rise an unit on the field we are pretty much impenetrable. But this side is an apology on the field. In 1983 world cup Roger binny's swing in quarter finals, Sandhu's magic delivery in final, Kapil's outstanding catch in the deep.. you need to create those moments. Munaf, Nehra are hopeless.
maniac Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Munaf,Nehra,Gambhir,Zak,Pathan-Poor fielders Sachin,Sehwag will give 100 percent but obviously age catching up with Sachin and Sehwag is not the quickest of movers Bhajji and Yuvraj-very inconsistent, can pull off blinders and drop sitters so that leaves us with Kohli and Raina...the more I type the more I realise what a poor fielding side we have
ravishingravi Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 India can't be winning this. Although, the way the format is strucure, it comes down to 3 good days and you are world champion. So, while I won't back them, they have as much chance as any other side.
pinkfreud Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I'm just about as pessimistic as most others in this thread about our chances. Dhoni keeps talking about 'peaking at the right time', but I've personally never understood that logic. Australia have been on a winning streak so far, so when is a side like theirs supposedly meant to peak? That logic may only work in a series, but the WC is a do or die situation... and I'm afraid we're veering more towards death than doing a lot right now.
