What does Ishant need to do to take more wickets?

Key for Ishant is length, bowling a good short ball, persistence, Gillespie, Sreenath are two bowlers he can look at , who were similar and successfull, especially in latter half of career. At release Ishant has a wobbly seam, the good thing about that is most time the ball comes in but certain times it will keep staright or even go out, also this will cause variation in bounce, UY uses his wrist very well to get more bounce on deliveries he wants to surprise the batsmen, Ishant once he is fully fit should play some County, where he can form his plan, learn what works, work on stock balls, variations, lengths where he can be more effective.

Pretty good suggestions from all the folks here but I'm sure he is getting all of that and more from eric simmons and fletcher! The guy bowled a fair share of unplayable deliveries today and was beating the outside edge of cowan and pontu even when they were past 50..... I remember him getting the leading edges of both cowan and pontu in 1 over as well but both fell short of fielders..... He was plain unlucky and on any other day would have scalped 3 wkts easily. The main thing is that all 3 seamers are doing wonderfully as a pack and sooner or later in this series each of them will gobble up aussie batters coz their batting sucks at the moment.... no one is playing with confidence except for the newcomer cowan and maybe siddle.

today he did well but normally he needs to bowl little fuller imo might be touch expensive but i want to see wickets too he really bowled well today even when australia were on top his spell broke the momentum and then yadav carried on the good work and got wicket we are in for nice series if these guys stay fit they will only get better!

Pitch itself has to provide assistance for him to be effective. On a decent batting surface he is simply not good enough to extract life. He just relies on angles nothing more. He has to generate movement off the seam or in the air. He neither has a good bouncer nor a good yorker. So limited variations. Relies largely on the response from surface.

Very hardworking bowler, also young, his best is yet to come,if he stays fit, once he understands how to bowl in test's, fuller length, I believe county cricket is what he needs.

Without any rewards (wickets) it'll be hard to keep the motivation level up and not let frustration creep in..This whole idea of containment and thus creating "pressure" is rubbish as it doesn't work against top teams.. He needs to work smart..not work hard for nothing..

I think he is protecting his left ankle. So instead of his left foot creating the leverage by hitting the deck hard, he is generating more from his shoulders. This is resulting in not having consistency and control over line and length.
