Umesh bowled badly in all the 3 test matches in SL too,

He looks demotivated and lacking in intensity a bit too frequently and that is the issue.

It is almost as if he is happy with what he done in life and needs nothing more.

he is the alter ego of Sreesanth.

I have mentioned that in the past too. Ideally its the team management's problem. Getting the best out of people depends upon the management. Throwing someone away is not the solution.

It is frustrating for me too to see Umesh being wayward. But if we throw him away, it is going to set a bad precedence for the future pacers and mark my word on it! We need a holistic approach if we need to have a fast bowling culture. And it begins from a sports psychologist to diet, to training etc etc etc...

We don't need to throw him away and he can be in the squad.

But, the SA test series is too important for us and we need a pacy and consistent pacer in the playing XI for that.

But here its all Umesh’s fault. Management can only do so much. He has been provided the best facilities, enoughmatches but he has remained like that. This is what he had to offer and this is what he has been doing for a while. After taking couple of wickets, he has been always satisfied. Thats been the story. I have mentioned thousand times earlier in Umesh debates.

Same has been done by Ishant all through out. Hence I say pick a new bowler instead of going back to Ishant. Keep Ishant only as back up.

Umesh has one five fer in 66 innings. Thats a horrible statistic. Even all rounder bowlers have more five fers than him.  If the specialist bowler cannot take 5 wicket hauls then it clearly shows the bowler is incapable of running through a batting lineup. I wont call him brainless though, just a below average pace bowling performer imo.

just remove home tests and consider overseas test then he would be a Torchbearer of 'Brainless' category IMO

If was perfect story for Indians,a typical Bollywood nationa.

o wow, Small town boy from poor family bowling fast. Okay lets give him a chance and then they kept giving him chance after chance after chance. In between he bowled well in few good games, anyone would after playing so many games, but then its finally back to normal and now Umesh Yadav Bhajan-Keertan is finally coming to an end it seems. Glad the bhakti is over.

Unless you are Shami or Bhuvi, you do not have a case.

In contrast, Ishant has 7 five fer in 136 innings, Shami has 2 five-fer in 48 innings and Bhuvi has 4 five fers in 31 innings

Unfortunately I have to agree. He just feels sorry for himself. Even after fielders drop catches off of his bowling, he gives a fake smile and shrugs it off. Need to show emotions damn it.  He does the same when he gets hit for boundaries. Sort of reminds me of Ishant in his early days.

5 wicket hauls in no. of innings

Bhuvi - 4 in 31

Shami - 2 in 48

Umesh - 1 in 66

Ishant - 7 in 136

Shows who the strike bowlers are capable of running through the lineups.

Shami has 5 more four-wicket hauls in addition to his 2 five-wicket hauls and that means something too  ( and Bhuvi has 1  )

If you consider wickets per innings, it is

Shami     1.84

Ishant     1.60

Bhuvi      1.53

Umesh    1.43

This parameter is important to check consistency in wicket-taking ability.

Bhuvi is the rare bowler in Indian cricket who cashes when he is in form. He converts couple of wickets into five and gets five get more frequently than any other Indian bowler in event years. Like we need batters like Chet and Virat who convert 100 to a 200+ we need Bhuvi who takes five gets unlike other pace bowlers who struggle to give the big performance. Without Bhuvi it is going to be struggle if the wickets and conditions are not assisting our world class spinners.

Bhuvi does that when the ball is swinging or seaming and looks like one of our 2 best pacers ......  but looks innocuous on flat tracks which are rather frequent.
