He takes some time to get going and then accelarates at the end. While there is time to do that in ODIs, T20s can be lost just by two slow overs. I'd rather he bats the same way he does in ODIs and drop down the order in T20.

It is his home ground in a way. He practiced day in day out here for the IPL. So there is no excuse. Chennai pitch is harder to bat in the 2nd half. Don't deny that. Lot of IPL matches were like that. But not this bad.

He does this all the time. Tries to take the match to the last over even if the required run rate is not that high. Then hits a boundary in the last over and wins the match and hailed as a hero, nerves of platinum, greatest finisher and what not. Yesterday it did not went as planned. :hero:

Seriously I am also amazed at this. We have had such resounding thrashings in last two tours that we kind of erased whatever Indian cricket team had earned under combined captaincies of Ganguly, Dravid and Kumble and a large number of people thought that to question Dhoni's captaincy is pre-mature. And here Dhoni might have mis-calculated one or two balls or could not connect few balls cleanly in an inconsequential T 20 match against a NZ team and even ardent Dhoni supporters started baying for his blood. If you want to sack Dhoni for that, sack others too, SRT, Viru, GG, and Zak, all. You cannot solely blame Dhoni for that. Because today he was the major reason for the loss, can not say the same for those tours. We have gone over this a 100 times.

I am stating the same so you are saying Dhoni the captain should take the responsibility of SRT, GG, Viru, RD, VVS, Zak, Ishant, Sreesanth under performing. It could have happened if we had a choice, but here TINA worked for Dhoni. And then again, when was the last time, an Indian captain was sacked because we lost abroad.

Dhoni offers no excuses for shock defeat

Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni felt that he and Yuvraj had to finish the game off after the sound opening provided by Virat Kohli. India dominated for the major part of the match, but failed to put the finishing touch and eventually succumbed to a narrow one run loss against New Zealand. Accepting responsibility for the loss, Dhoni preferred to swell on the positives accrued by the team. "As far as the team's mood is concerned, quite disappointed with the loss but lots of positives from this game," said Dhoni. Why do you specifically say International T20, as if its a different ball game than the IPL? Are the rules different? Are the grounds bigger? Are the opposing teams much stronger? Stop making this distinction, when there is none. Dhoni has performed in the IPL under high pressure situations on multiple occasions. Playing in Sri Lanka for the T20 WC would not be much different than playing in the IPL, condition wise. Besides, nobody cares about international T20 except for the WC. He failed yesterday, and no doubt it was him who was primarily responsible for the loss with his slow batting. However, it was only a friendly game yesterday and losing it is not the end of the world. Dhoni thrives under pressure. He's the best guy to lead the team in a T20. And its not like we have any alternatives who are even fractionally as good. Besides, what good is it changing a captain 1 week before a major tournament?
