Most important cricketer in the world from 2000-2010. No one else had a greater impact on the game in this period than Ponting did with both his batting and captaincy.

Ricky Ponting was pure Australian - guts and glory. He characterised the Emu and Kangaroo on the Australian flag - never took a step back. Good bye Punter, you rocked!

To some extent I always wondered if Indian cricket fans hate for Ponting was OTT. Anyways' date=' wonderful article.[/quote'] its more to do with his behaviour

'Ponting among the top five I bowled to' - Harbhajan http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia/content/current/story/594408.html

"Ponting will be in my top five Test batsmen ever against whom I played," Harbhajan said. "He was the kind of cricketer who could win matches on his own. An outstanding fielder, his body language throughout his career is something we all look up to. He brought so much passion and enthusiasm to the field each time he walked in. That earned him command as a leader and a lot of respect for what he has achieved."
Good to see some sensible statement from Harbhajan.

Ponting is the most successful cricketer ever. If you ask any young player say Kohli about achievements 3 world cups, 2 as a captain, 100+ test victories,
given the kind of team he's got i wont call it an achievement even a afridi could've managed it if given a chance :elefant:
13000+ runs in both the formats and epic odi knock in the finals' date='who can regret it:dontknow:
:hatsoff:

That's the thing. If you say that a player achieved more because he was in a strong team, then that also mean he had to compete with better players and keep his level high to be part of the team. So, Shahid Afridi won't achieve that.

Dont get how that list says Punter struggled aginst Akhtar, Caddick etc??? he plundered heaps of centuries against those two bowlers. Also scored at least 4 test tons vs Anderson, whats up with that list????

Indian Fans-me included had a problem with what we perceived of Ponting the person from what we saw on TV....he might be a great human being in real life but his on-filed behavior made most Indian fans think he was a douche. Like his bar-brawls,his response to Srinath, his confrontations with Bhajji, and just his overal demeanour on the pitch. All that said,I have not seen a single Indian cricket fan(trolls aside) who do not respect Ponting's ability and his accomplishments as a cricketer.

Dravid employed full-time by Cricinfo. He replaced Sanjay Manjrekar in the Test side ' date=' now might do it in CricInfo as well.[/quote'] Much better columnist than Sanju.
