Nah, on Indian flat pitch and weakened aussie attack? Nah. SDhawan century is very good, but won't be the "best" ever debut 100 by Indian. The ones made in SA and Eng were against better bowling attacks in tougher conditions.

England were one of the worst team much weaker than the current Aussie team.

Taking everything into consideration like bowling attack, pitch, match situation, it's probably Sehwag. If it's only the quality of shot making, it's probably Dhawan.

Hands down it was Amre's. He came in at 38-4 and battled Donald/Schultz/McMillan. Schultz has a career avg of 20.xx, SR of 46. Not to mention Donald's calibre. Added another 210 with Azhar, Prabhakar, More as the recognized bats. Surviving 299 balls on that trampoline pitch and attack is pretty bad-ass for a debutant. Sehwag would be next in my book.

Between Viru, Raina and Dhawan, I'd pick Dhawan's because unlike the other two, he had not been exposed to that much international cricket prior to his test debt. Raina was an already a mainstay of the Indian ODI unit for many years and Sehwag had been a member of the Indian ODI team for nearly a year before both their test debuts. Dhawan had only played a smattering of international cricket, that too more than 18 months ago. For him to come in with such limited international experience and play an innings like he did - INCREDIBLE. Think about it - Dhawan scored a 100 in his first full session of test cricket. Amazing!

Agree. Sehwag's was too in very similar situation against as good an attack. Both should be top of the list.

I would put Amre's ahead simply because he was managing with Prabhakar & More after 127-6 whereas Sehwag had Sachin to stay with him till 288-5. Also India were batting 2nd at Durban whereas they were batting 1st at Bloomfontein. The other issue is that with Sachin/Sehwag's rate of scoring, there is no way India could have drawn the test. For the same reason, Sachin and Azhar's 100s at Capetown 96-97 could not help them. Which is why Dravid is the right guy to draw a game for you, seeing the way he takes up balls.
