Should Dinesh Karthik replace Vijay or Rohit?

Vijay hasn't shown any class but he's not a hack. How many times has he opened in ODIs recently ? Nohit has tailunt but applies zilch. Sir Jadeja is a total hack against quicks.

He can always improve. He improved from being a total hack everywhere to producing magical knocks and bowling figures to help win matches for his team. He can see off the quicks.

If you add pathan to the 3 you mentioned they all are poor batsman but 2 of them can make up for it with the ball which is the two I would pick in the playing 11. The pitches can be very flat in this tournament and since vijay and rohit havn't set the world on fire I would just play the 2 all rounders.

Most likely we will play 2 all rounders and I'm only against Sir Jadeja opening the batting. Pathan has done an ok job at #3 many yrs earlier although I'd still prefer genuine batsmen in the top 6.

will they open with KKD? He is a good player against spin bowling.Also a good player under pressure. will reserve him, Raina, Dhoni in the backend. Kohli no.3 KKD no.4 or 5 Raina no.4 or 5 they can swap Dhoni no.6 As much as it is tempting to go with 4 bowlers.. 5th bowler option alone can lose you the match as there is no yuvraj or even Sehwag. Kohli, Raina will have to complete 5th bowler quota.. that is a horrible option. So methinks it is going to be Vijay or Rohit not both. Wish we had Pujara.. would have been perfect foil for other players. Damn you selectors :hitler:

I am basically saying jadeja should play the hafeez role because kartik is more valuable as a middle order batsman and jaddu and pathan bring more to the table than rohit and vijay who are in the squad as openers.

i see what you mean.. It is not hard to replicate Hafeez's performance. Granted he bashed our trundlers. But overall against most teams he sucks balls. :cantstop:

the thing with Shikhar is despite his 100s in the test (which were awesome). I somehow get a feeling that he is not going to make it as a player for India which is a shame as he appears to be the closest to the new sehwag for india. No doubt though regardless of what intuition i have we need to give him a good extended run in all formats to establish himself as an opener. He has earned his shot. So even if say he gets dud scores in the champions trophy we should always play him in the series v WI and Sl to follow. If he fails and does not have a single 50 in all those games then maybe we need to start looking at other options. But we owe it to him to give him 6-7 ODIs in a row to see if he can make a reasonable score Same for tests and T20s. I would like it if he is given the entire SA series to prove himself. But he is 27-28, if he does not grab his chance in time around, i dont know how many chances he will get. He get a feeling that him and Tiwary will only get one shot more. I am sure the likes of Chand will be waiting in the wings.

DK can play swing better than any other indian batsmen in the ODI squad. we wont see him failing against pakistan as a middle-order batsmen

With yuvraj not in the squad, India is going with 5 bowlers that is given; the question is will it be jadeja and pathan or one of them with a specialist bowler. Either ways Virat, DK, Raina, Dhoni are the middle order. Give the current form Dhawan is the first opener; it comes down to who of Vijay / rohit gets more runs or looks better in the remaining warm up game that guy gets the final slot. what would be interesting is if we go with both pathan and jadeja then who will be the remaining 3. I expect ashwin to play all games so its likely that ishant/bhuvan will play and umesh might have to sit out.

It will be Rhoit Sharma who will be dropped. Knowing Dhoni, he will not drop Murali even after repeated failures. I might sound harsh to few...but he is bit biased to his IPL team mates. On form - DK should replace Murali, Mishra should replace Ashwin :agree:
